Good Morning Y3!

For maths today and tomorrow we will be recapping pictograms from last week and interpreting them.

Starter: TRUE or FALSE? Look at the pictogram – Does each circle represent 2?

Video: In today’s video it explains how we can interpret pictograms and represent data. Remember to keep pausing the video and look at the task you are set.
Worksheet: Can you interpret the pictograms and answer the questions set on today’s worksheet?

We have done lots of learning about the story Beowulf, this is our last week using the story to inspire our writing. This week we will be writing our own myth. What is a myth?

Today you will be planning your own story including the characters and the setting. Some hero myths include a special power or a magical object that is given to the hero by the gods, such as the supernatural strength in Beowulf’s hands that he uses to defat Grendel. You may want to include something like this in your myth (for example, magic glasses that allow you to see through walls or special gloves that turn enemies into stone when they touch them).

Your Task
For your lesson today, you are going to complete your plan as you watch the video on your Google Classroom with Miss Whitehead. You can complete your plan on the worksheet below or use a piece of paper and just put the subheadings.

History
How did the Romans change Britain?
Even though the Roman Empire ended its rule in Britain a long time ago, many of the things that the Romans introduced to Britain still have a big impact on our lives in modern times. We call this the ‘legacy’ of the Romans in Britain. Follow the PowerPoint lesson below to learn more…

Your Task
You are going to draw four selfies that help to show how the Romans changed Britain (see some examples on the PowerPoint slides on your Google Classroom). You can either use the worksheet attached below as a template or simply fold a piece of plain paper into four.

We still have some space on our fabulous Roman display at school so don’t forget to share your work with us at [email protected].

Year 3 express themselves!

5th February 2021C Whitehead

As part of children’s mental health week, we have been exploring the different ways we can express ourselves, and the creative ways that we can share our feelings, our thoughts and our ideas. We know that finding creative ways to share our thoughts, feelings and ideas can make us feel good and help our mental health. Take a look at what we got up to express ourselves in our own individual way…

This week we finally got to hear the end of the Beowulf story, we hope you all enjoyed it! Myths and Legends can be told in many different ways. We’ve read a retell of the story together- the real author is unknown because the text is from such a long time ago. Today we would like you to watch the story of Beowulf (follow the link below). As you watch the videos, make sure you make notes about similarities and differences between the text we read together and the video version of the ancient story.

Good Morning Y3!

Today we are moving on to being looking at statistics.

Starter: Does anybody know what statistics are? Write you answer in the comments box on your Google Classroom. List as many different ways we can represent statistics.

Video: We would like you to begin by watching the video on Tally Charts – You looked at these in Y1 and in Y2 so you should be familiar with them.

Today we are going to draw inferences from details in a text. An inference is a deduction that is made based upon reasoning and it allows you to figure out information that may be missing in a text or picture. Texts sometimes describe how characters look or act and from that we can infer how they feel even if the text does explain that directly. Sometimes writers call this technique ‘show-not-tell’. Listen to your video lesson on your Google Classroom with Miss Whitehead where she will explain your task in detail.

Your Task!

History
Although the Romans built up towns in Britain, the majority of people still lived in the countryside. Many people continued to live in Celtic-style roundhouses. Can you remember what these looked like from when we studied the Iron Age? Richer people lived in larger houses called villas. Today we are going to look specifically at Roman Villas. Use the PowerPoint lesson on your Google Classroom to begin your lesson.

Your Task
You are going to act as estate agents and create an advertisement for a Roman villa.
What will they need to include?
-A picture of the villa
-The different rooms they have chosen.
-Any extras such as slaves.
-The decoration such as mosaics.

You can use the template below or use a piece of paper to create your own design! Don’t forget to share your work to us at [email protected] or hand it in via Google classroom.

Science
This week we are going to be using all the information we have learnt over the past 4 weeks, on animals including humans, to complete today’s lesson. Your task for today is to complete the nutrient diary. You can either complete it for the food you have eaten today or yesterday (Sunday).

You need to draw and write down what you have eaten for your breakfast, lunch, dinner as well as the snacks and drinks you have consumed. After this, write down which food gave you the following types of nutrients. Think back to our lesson on ‘what different nutrients do for us’. Log into your Google Classroom to view your worksheet.

Once your finished this you can test your knowledge of all the things you have learnt in this topic by heading over to the BBC bitesize website and completing the different quizzes.
