Year 2 STEM week 2026

Last week, we explored the journey of energy. We found out where energy comes from; how it is stored and distributed; and ways in which energy is used. We used the Lego Essentials kits to make models including a radar and an excavation cave. We then used the Spike app to explore coding to make parts of a model move, light up and make a sound.

We applied what we learnt to make our own excavation site model with a moving element using a motor. Using the Spike app, we used icon blocks or word blocks to program our hub. We then had the opportunity to share our ideas with other children.

During the week, we learnt about First Lego League’s core values and considered ways we’d demonstrated teamwork, inclusion, impact, discovery, innovation whilst having fun!

SEND Coffee morning

Reception STEM Week

This week Reception had lots of fun designing and creating ocean vehicles.  We talked about the variety of jobs people do around the ocean. We showed fantastic teamwork, and improved our thinking and problem solving skills.  We also learned lots of interesting facts about how to keep our oceans safe for all living things. Look at some of our amazing creations!!!

Makaton Training from The Autism Hub

Introduction to Makaton workshop for families:

We are offering a free ‘Introduction to Makaton’ Family Workshop on Monday 24th June, 10.00am-12.30pm, delivered by Makaton Tutor Anna Melling from Talk to the Hand Makaton Training (limited places available).

I have attached the event poster for full details.

Please note, this is the same session that was delivered in April, but due to the high volume of interest we have decided to run it again.

Happy New Year to all of our Parent Carers!

We have our first Drop-In Session taking place on Thursday 25th January 2024. This event is being hosted at Hebburn Family Hub but is open to ALL parent carers across South Tyneside.

The event is FREE and you do not need to pre-book a place. The session starts at 10am and will finish at 11:30am.

The theme for this event is Wellbeing and we will be joined by Carly at Luna Blu – Creative Arts Therapy who will introduce her business and let you know what events she has planned this year.

Wellbeing is important not just for the child or young person, but also for the parent carer. Come down, catch up and be heard.

SEND Inclusion Award

SENDIA Overview

The SEND Inclusion Award offers mainstream schools the opportunity to gain accreditation for high-quality provision and outcomes for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Schools are required to reflect on and improve their provision in line with a series of objectives that fulfil both Ofsted criteria and the SEND Code of Practice*. Specifically, the award focuses on ‘outcomes’ for pupils and how schools can demonstrate the impact of their SEND provision. The award leads schools through a process of self-evaluation, action planning and evidence collection before final verification and accreditation.

The award will help schools develop high-quality SEND provision throughout the school by:

★  promoting awareness of SEND issues and inclusion for all staff, parents, pupils and governors

★  evaluating and improving classroom practice and interventions

★  focusing on pupil outcomes.

Successful completion of the award will enable schools to:

★  gain recognition for high-quality education and care for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities

★  demonstrate to parents, governors and Ofsted inspectors that the school provision complies with current legislation and the SEND Code of Practice, and is effective in achieving good outcomes for all pupils. NB The term ‘parent’ is used throughout to represent the principal adult or adults caring for the pupil with SEND and is intended to cover any main caregiver.

Family Hubs in South Tyneside

South Tyneside Family Hubs are delighted to invite parents and carers along to an Information Event.

The event takes place at the Little Haven Hotel and will allow you to hear more about this exciting time as they start to implement the South Tyneside Family Hubs Network and the Best Start for Life Programme in the Borough.
