Year 2 Home Learning 17.11.20

17th November 2020ajennings

Good morning year 2,

We hope you are all well. Here are your home learning tasks for today:

Phonics

We always start the day with phonics, last Friday we sent home the sound u-e huge brute. Read over the sound cards and look at the rhymes to help you remember that the best friends u-e and how the e changes the sound of the u. Now practise reading the words for each sounds, remember to spot the special friend and best friends!

Here is a link to Ruth Miskin online which will support your learning.

Challenge the children to spell and write the words using the correct sounds. There are plenty of useful videos available on the Ruth Miskin Youtube channel.

English

Using the English Activity workbook complete pages 2 and 3 which is looking at nouns and adjectives.

As an extra challenge, children could write a sentence using two adjectives and a noun to describe a favourite character from a story, a film or even their pet. Remember to try and use a comma in a list of adjectives.

Maths

For maths, complete pages 2 and 3 in your addition and subtraction activity book which is practising adding and subtracting using pictures. Following this, children could login to Numbots for more number practice.

Odd Socks day

This week is anti-bullying week, we kick started with odd socks day to celebrate everyone being different and unique.  We’d love you to design your own pair of odd socks for the school competition using the sheet included in your pack. Send any entries to [email protected]

Here is a link to a virtual odd socks assembly for more information. We hope you have a great day.

21st October 2020E Jones

Good Morning, happy Wednesday!

Here are your home learning tasks for today:

English – Task 7 – To plan a story

What happened in the story ‘The Runaway Iceberg’? What adventure did they go on? We are going to write our own story about Gaspar and Rossi but they are going to go on a different adventure.

Our task is to plan where they are going to go and what is going to happen.

Using your plan, try to describe your character, setting, problem and ending in as much detail as possible as this will help you write your story.

Can you use any similes or commas when listing adjectives?

Remember a simile is when you use ‘as’ or ‘like’ to compare something (e.g. The penguin is as cute as a rabbit, it was freezing like ice).

Phonics and reading

Today we would like you to look at the sound ‘igh’.

Have a look at this video to support learning.

Challenge the children to spell and write the words using the correct sounds. You may wish to write some of the words down and ask the children to read them aloud.

You will find useful phonics videos on Ruth Miskin youtube channel.

Maths

Take a look at the following video to support your learning:

Now complete the following sheets from your work booklet:

PSHE

We have been looking at plastic pollution. Can you research how plastic can be harmful to animals, humans, plants and our world? What can we do to help?

Create a poster to show what we can do to help improve plastic waste.

Canny Friday’s back!

20th October 2020eclark

Friday saw an amazing collection of toiletries, canned and dried foods being brought into school for The South Tyneside Food Bank. Our last Canny Friday is this week (23rd October). We can’t wait to see how many donations we manage to raise for such a worthy cause.
