Year 2 Home Learning 15.10.20

15th October 2020E Jones

Morning all,

Your tasks for today are:

English

Task 3 – To sequence events

Finish reading the story ‘The Runaway Iceberg’. Did you enjoy the story? What did you like about it? What did you not like about it? Tell your grown up what happened in the story. Cut out the pictures and put them in the correct order of what happens (use the sequencing sheet)

Phonics and reading:

Today we would like you to look at the sound ‘ow’.

Have a look at this video to support learning.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxDCayCEjCA

Challenge the children to spell and write the words using the correct sounds. You may wish to write some of the words down and ask the children to read them aloud.

You will find useful phonics videos on Ruth Miskin youtube channel.

Maths:

Take a look at the following video to support learning.

These are the sheets you need to complete:

DT:

We would like you to think about healthy eating. What sort of food should you eat to get a good balance of the different food groups on your plate?

You can either plan a healthy salad to eat or plan to make a healthy dish of your choosing. Use one of the templates below to help you.

Don’t forget to send photographs of any completed activities to

Year 2 home learning tasks 14.10.20

14th October 2020Ms C Smith

Morning all and happy Wednesday.

You tasks today are:

English:

Task 2 – To describe the setting.

Today, we are going to describe the setting. What is a setting? Where does the story take place? Use your sentences to describe what it might be like to live in Antarctica. Read my example and underline what I have included that makes my description more detailed. Can you see any conjunctions, adjectives and commas?

Rossi and Gaspar live in the freezing, icy Antarctic, which is a continent in the south of our planet. It is home to many adorable, flightless penguins that you can see eating lots of slimy, nutritious fish. The ground is covered in frosty, shiny ice and it is as slippery as a slide. Rossi loves to play on the dangerous, flat icebergs but they can be as dangerous as fire so he needs to be careful. You can hear lots of arctic animals jumping and splashing in the cold, aquatic blue ocean and having fun.

Think about using conjunctions, interesting adjectives and commas for lists when you are writing your description.

Phonics and reading:

Today we would like you to look at the sound ‘ear’.

Have a look at this video to support learning.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8Bf3zReelc

Challenge the children to spell and write the words using the correct sounds.

You will find useful phonics videos on Ruth Miskin youtube channel.

Maths:

Today take a look at the section in your home learning packs ‘ Tens and Ones’.

Take a look at the following video to support learning.

The pages in your booklet should look like the following:

If you really want to challenge yourself, you could try the challenge questions!

Can you give an example to prove your answer? . Draw it to help you.

Science:

Our topic this half term has been ‘animals including humans’. We have found out what animals and humans have in common, what we need to stay alive and how to be healthy.

In Science this week, we would be looking at keeping clean. We are experts at this!

Using the template below (could just split a bit of paper into four) draw four things that you do to keep yourself clean. Then use the word bank below to compete the sentences.

Don’t forget to send photographs of any completed activities to

[email protected]

If you have any questions or need anything please get in touch!

Year 2 home learning 13.10.20

13th October 2020Ms C Smith

Good morning everyone. Hope you are all well and ready to learn some exciting things!

English:

Task 1 – To make a prediction.
Read to ‘The iceberg floated out father and father until they could no longer see land.’
What do you think is going to happen next?
How will they get home?
Will anybody help them?
Will Gaspar and Rossi help each other?

Your task is to make a prediction using what you already know about the story and the
characters. In your sentences make sure you use conjunctions (e.g. because, so, as) so that
you can give reasons for your prediction.

Phonics and reading:

Today we would like you to look at the sound ‘ire’. Use the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c27IpQyzRKY&t=191s to help.

Challenge the children to spell and write the words using the correct sounds.

You will find useful phonics videos on Ruth Miskin youtube channel.

Maths:

Complete the following in your work booklets sent home.

Have a try at the challenge !

Geography:

This week in Geography, we are looking at aerial views. Aerial views are photographs taken from above using a satellite. We have been looking at google earth to identify the continents and have been looking at what else we can see in these images such as mountains, roads and coastline.  Look at these photos, what can you see? Use the word bank to help you. Do you think the picture is taken of the city? or the countryside? Can you sort the features into physical (natural, ie cliffs, trees) or human (man-made, bridges houses).

Don’t forget to send photographs of any completed activities to [email protected]

Oliver’s Vegetables

22nd September 2020S Robson

Some of our Year 2 pupils visited our allotment to see which fruit and vegetables were growing there. We found broccoli, spinach,  Swiss chard, cabbage, mint, thyme, courgette, blackberries and rosemary. Some of these are mentioned in our Oliver’s Vegetables story book. It helped us to write our descriptions of Grandpa’s garden.

We are delighted to announce that Harton Primary School has been awarded an Artsmark Silver Award by the Art Council of England! We have only worked towards this award for 4 terms so this is an incredible achievement.

We are very proud this award and look forward developing our creative arts curriculum even further in the future!

The assessor made the following comment about the fantastic opportunities we provide at Harton:

‘It is good to see the progress your school has made in developing the Arts in just 4 terms. A new music scheme has been adopted and some valuable CPD has been given to staff in this and other arts. There have been several successful events and initiatives, including your Arts week, your Year 2 Heritage Learning Project and your Pen Pal Portrait Project, making some good links with other settings and establishing partnerships with arts providers and organisations.’

National Writing Day – 24th June 2020 – #247challenge

26th June 2020D Fawkes

Yesterday was National Writing Day and this year’s challenge was for the children to write a 24 word story in 7 minutes. Our children’s entries were fantastic and some of them rather moving. Even 24 words can have such a powerful effect.
