The theme of this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is ‘Express Yourself’.
We have been writing poems, making Lego models, and drawing pictures to express our individuality through our creativity.
Some of our pupils have entered their fantastic work into a competition run by South Tyneside Healthy Minds Team. Good luck everyone!
This week is ‘Children’s Mental Health Week’.
This morning in our live Google Classroom session, we listened to the story ‘Giraffes can’t dance’ and then talked about the things we are good at.
We ended our session with a lively GoNoodle!
We have seen lots of fabulous examples of Health, Wellbeing and Relationships work across school, from our pupils engaged in remote learning and those pupils in school.
Some pupils in KS1 have been practising mindfulness by joining in with online story yoga, and also learning about what makes them special. Others have been learning about money, and having an awareness of saving money for something they need or would like.
In KS2, some classes have been thinking about what makes them happy, and their thoughts on this are all very unique. Researching issues facing cocoa farmers in Ghana and how organisations like Fairtrade are trying to improve working conditions and environment, has produced some interesting debate from some classes. Other pupils have created very informative posters based upon their awareness of basic first aid to do with nose bleeds.
Our Year 6 pupils have been looking at careers and potential jobs for the future, discussing things that might lead them to choose a certain job or career.

Year 4 have been spreading positivity and good news in their Google Meets on a Friday afternoon.
Friday 15th’s ‘Feelgood Friday’ gave our pupils the opportunity to share wonderful posters they had made on the theme of Good News, Resilience, Feeling Grateful, or something that made them feel happy. This was followed by our weekly Harton postcard awards, recognising pupil’s amazing endeavours and positive attributes.
For Friday 22nd ‘Feelgood Friday’, pupils took part in an online vote to register which activity they would like to participate in during our Google Meet – a little bit of fun to end the week.
For next week’s Meet, maybe our pupils could choose the categories for the vote!
This year has been a challenging one to say the least, so our pupils have written some very considerate and compassionate Christmas messages to wish everyone a brighter future.
Tides of Change visited our school recently and we enjoyed a bit of festive fun and an understanding of how some risk can be incorporated into outdoor play and learning activities.
Pupils toasted marshmallows, used a flint, made S’mores, and learnt about fire safety. In class, pupils made reindeer models from natural resources like twigs.
Everyone was extremely sensible, and followed safety rules to ensure accidents were kept at bay.
Our Outdoor Learning Classroom has been temporarily transformed into Harton Grotto! Pupils have enjoyed Christmas stories, Christmas carols, music and hot chocolate. It has been a big hit with everyone, and helped to spread some Christmas cheer!
Year 2 pupils have been fascinated by the life story of Mary Seacole, particularly her resilience in overcoming challenging situations and her contribution to the nursing profession. Pupils have completed excellent work that shows empathy and understanding.
Our classroom and corridor displays reflect the PSHE we do throughout our school through a variety of curriculum subjects, and in a variety of ways.

We are teaming up with Age Concern Tyneside South to send a little community Christmas cheer to some of our South Tyneside residents. Our pupils have made Christmas designs which will be delivered via Age Concern. We think they look very Christmassy!
