Year 4

‘Feelgood’ Friday

24th January 2021S Robson

Year 4 have been spreading positivity and good news in their Google Meets on a Friday afternoon.

Friday 15th’s ‘Feelgood Friday’ gave our pupils the opportunity to share wonderful posters they had made on the theme of Good News, Resilience, Feeling Grateful, or something that made them feel happy. This was followed by our weekly Harton postcard awards, recognising pupil’s amazing endeavours and positive attributes.

For Friday 22nd ‘Feelgood Friday’, pupils took part in an online vote to register which activity they would like to participate in during our Google Meet – a little bit of fun to end the week.

For next week’s Meet, maybe our pupils could choose the categories for the vote!

Thursday 21st January

Good morning everyone!

Google Meets will take place at 8.50am and 2.30pm. Morning meet will be used to discuss the work for the day. We will use our afternoon meet to continue reading This morning I met a Whale by Michael Morpurgo.

The lessons for today are Maths, English, Spellings, Accelerated Reader and History.

Maths:

Today’s focus is dividing 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. Watch the video and then complete the worksheet. For place value counters you can use the attached link (https://mathsbot.com/manipulatives/placeValueCounters). Please either complete your answers on the worksheet or upload a picture of your working out (this can be a print out or written on a piece of paper) to Google Classroom.

English:

Your job for today is to evaluate your work. You will need to have your finished non-chronological report in front of you.

First, read your report.

Secondly, read the non-chronological report checklist.

Can you spot these features in your report? If you can, tick the appropriate box. You haven’t included a feature, put a cross. (You could write this out onto paper.)

Complete the fronted adverbial table also if you can find examples of these in your writing.

What did you do well? How could you improve your work for next time?

Think about these questions before finally completing the ‘two stars and a wish’ sheet.

Spelling:

Spelling is a writing race. Set a timer for 45 seconds or use the online one from Google Classroom. See how many times you can write each word out correctly in 45 seconds. Do this for each word. Then count up your score and upload a picture!

1. answer 2. island 3. February 4. length 5. strength 6. business 7. famous 8. guard 9. notice 10. remember

History:

Watch the Lesson 3 video to learn about how the Vikings travelled. Draw a Viking longboat and add labels and a sentence about each part of the longboat. Upload a photograph or screenshot of your work to Google Classroom.

Accelerated Reader:

Log into Accelerated Reader https://ukhosted77.renlearn.co.uk/2246112/public/rpm/login/Login.aspx?srcID=s

Use books you have at home or free eBooks online from Oxford Owl (https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/)

Have a great day everyone!

Year 4

Wednesday 20th January 2021 Y4 Home learning

20th January 2021S Lovatt

Wednesday 20th January 2021

Good morning everyone!

Here are today’s activities. You can complete them in any order throughout the day.

There will be a Google Meet at 8:50am and another at 2:30pm.

Maths:

Watch the video then complete the activity sheet. You’re looking at dividing by partitioning. Think carefully about what the numbers can be partitioned into – can you divide them by the one-digit number? Complete the activity on your worksheet or on a piece of paper and hand it in on Google Classroom.

English:

Your work for today is to finish writing your non-chronological report about the humpback whale. You will need to write:

  • Paragraph 2 and a sub-heading
  • Fact box

Use of all of your notes from Thursday and Friday to help you.

You must write in the third person, use formal language and include fronted adverbials.

Listen to the videos and use the attachments to help you.

Reading Plus:

Please spend about 15-20 minutes on Reading Plus, completing reading activities of your choice.

https://student.readingplus.com/ – Site Code: rpharto1

Spelling:

This week’s spellings are as follows.

  1. answer
  2. island
  3. February
  4. length
  5. strength
  6. business
  7. famous
  8. guard
  9. notice
  10. remember

Put each word into an impressive sentence. Can you use at least 2 fronted adverbials?

Art

Look at the different Henri Rousseau paintings. Split each painting into 3 sections and label: foreground, midground and background. If you can’t print and draw, you could write about the paintings. For example,

In the foreground, there are people. In the midground, there are black trees. In the background, I can see the sky, clouds and the moon.

Tuesday 19th January 2021

Good morning everyone!

Here are today’s activities. You can complete them in any order throughout the day.

There will be a Google Meet at 8:50am and another at 2:30pm.

Maths:

Today’s lesson is multiplying three-digit numbers by one-digit numbers.

Watch the video and then complete the activity sheet. If you’re not feeling too confident with short multiplication you can use long multiplication for all of the problems. You can also use the place value counters resource (https://mathsbot.com/manipulatives/placeValueCounters) to help you.

English:

You will need your planning sheet that you completed last week (Thursday and Friday).

Your job for today is to begin writing a non-chronological report all about the humpback whale. You will need to write:

  • A main heading for your report
  • An introduction
  • Paragraph 1 with a sub-heading

Use of all of your notes and attached videos to help you.

You must use formal language, write in the third person and include fronted adverbials.

You can write your report by hand or you can use Google Docs.

AR

Your task for today is to spend 20 minutes reading a book of your choice.

You might want to read a book that you already have on your bookshelf. If you fancy something new, Oxford Owl for Home (https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/) has a range of e-books that are free to access. You will need to ask an adult to create an Oxford Owl account for you.

Your book does not have to be within your usual ZPD range. It would be helpful however if it was close to this.

You can check your book’s ZPD by signing into Accelerated Reader (https://ukhosted77.renlearn.co.uk/2246112/) and then searching for it in the usual way (using the title for example).

English

Today’s task is to start planning a non-chronological report. You will be conducting internet research about the humpback whale.  Use one of the planning sheets to guide you.

Yesterday, you identified 2 blue whale topic areas and you used the internet to find more information about them. You used bullet points to record this information.

Choose 1 of your topic areas. Suggest a suitable sub-heading ( for example ‘What do whales eat?’) and then present these facts underneath it as a paragraph. You might want to add relevant facts from last week’s spider diagrams too!

Your paragraph should be at least 8 sentences in length. You will need to include fronted adverbials and you must write in the third person.

Take a look at the videos first. You will need to sign in to watch the Espresso clip (‘Using headings and sub-headings’).

Tuesday 12th January

Good morning everyone!

There will be a Google Meet at 8:50am and again at 2:30pm.

The lessons for today are Maths, English, Reading Plus, Spellings, PE and PSHE.

Maths:

The focus for today’s work is factor pairs. Watch the video and then complete the worksheet.

Reading Plus:

Complete 15 minutes worth of activities. Remember to read carefully and use your ReReads if unsure.

English:

Yesterday, we began to organise our blue whale facts. We read our facts carefully and found that we were able to group some of these. This is because some of our facts were related. Many were about diet and appearance for example.

Your task for today is to select TWO of the groups identified. You must then use the internet to find further information about these.

Use a child friendly search engine such as Kiddle.

Use bullet points to record your facts. Remember to use one bullet point for each fact.

Find 8 – 10 facts for each of your topic areas and then upload your work to Google Classroom. You could use Google Docs or simply upload a photo of handwritten research.

Spelling:

Look at the attachment containing this week’s spellings. Can you put these words into sentences?

PE:

Our focus for today’s lesson is fitness.

Get your body moving to ‘I like to move it’ (Zumba kids dance). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymigWt5TOV8

Next, set up a fitness circuit in whatever space you have. Spend 30 seconds at each station. How many of each activity can you perform? Remember to rest for 20 seconds in between each station too!

  • Activity station 1: Star jumps
  • Activity station 2: Squats
  • Activity station 3: Hopping on one leg
  • Activity station 4: Sit ups
  • Activity station 5: Free style! Create your own activity. You can even use equipment (bouncing a ball, catching a sock etc).

Finally, cool your body down by performing a series of stretches on ‘Kids exercise’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rOQKt6z0d4

PSHE:

Continue working on your PSHE poster so that it is ready to share during Friday’s 2.50PM Google Meet.

The poster can be on the theme of Positivity, Resilience, Good News or a Celebration of something we are thankful for. Examples of this, could be…being thankful for spending time with your family, positive messages of hope that soon we can see friends and do activities and clubs we enjoy, resilience in having a go with your online school work, or good news like moving house, birth of a baby cousin, or finally being able to do something you weren’t able to do before.

All resources can be found on Google Classroom.

Please submit work by uploading it as an attachment in Classroom. Alternatively, email a photograph of it to [email protected]
