Year 1

Year 1 Home Learning – Friday 9th October

9th October 2020Emma Adams

English

In the packs that went home last week you were given a copy of the story Billy and The Dragon. Please complete task 5 today.

Activity 5

Write a retell of the story Billy and the Dragon in your own words.

Try to remember what happened in the beginning, middle and at the end. Write a sentence for each part of the story.

Can you include adjectives to describe in your story?

Phonics and Reading

Today we would like you to revisit the ‘th’ sound. Please watch the lesson at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVTn8gyM4Ag Ask the children to write the sound th and spell words with th in them. E.g three, that, this, thing

*Please be aware, we do not ask Year 1 to write using any letter joins.

Maths

Today’s activity sheet is to ‘Count one less.’ Try to relate to yesterday’s work on one more so children understand that it is the opposite. Remember that ‘one less’ is the number before the starting number so it will be smaller – children might find it helpful to make a number track.

Use the video link to help if needed https://vimeo.com/455207567

Mental Health and Wellbeing Day

At Harton, we know how important it is to look after our wellbeing. At school, children will be taking part in some wellbeing activities, so why not do the same at home if you have the chance?

Design your own superhero

One rule – include yellow! The rest is up to you!

Which super powers might your superhero have? Why not theme them around World Mental Health Day? They could be the world’s best listener, the most amazing friend or have the power to show every young person in the world that they’re not alone.

Have a go at playing wellbeing bingo and see if you can find people to play with you. In the past week I have…

Have fun!

Don’t forget to send photographs of any completed activities to [email protected]

If you have any questions or need anything please get in touch!

Draw a story map of your own to show what happens in the story of Billy and the Dragon. Draw pictures to show important events.

Phonics and Reading

Today we would like you to revisit the sound ‘sh’. Use the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4vteSCD9YY to remind children of the sound. Challenge the children to spell words with the sh sound in. For example sh-o-p, sh-i-p etc.

You will find useful phonics videos on Ruth Miskin youtube channel.

Please log on to Reading eggs by following the instructions in your pack, and the log in details you have been given.

Maths

Today’s activity sheet is titled: ‘Represent Objects.’

Children have been learning that one object can be represented by another – for example – one elephant can be represented by one cube or counter. Today, children could be challenged to write the numeral as a written word too.

Challenge! Discuss the problem below & share your ideas with an adult

Science

We were amazed by how much the children had remembered about Hedgehogs yesterday! Well done everyone.  For today’s task, we would like the children to draw and label a picture of a hedgehog.

What is the scientific name for a Hedgehog’s spikes?
