Year 1 Home learning 11.01.21

11th January 2021P Mullea

Good Morning everyone,

We hope you had a lovely weekend.

This week we will be following the timetable below. Remember this is a guide only. We will continue to post tasks daily on google classroom and this page.

Download (DOC, 48KB)

Phonics and Reading

Read Write Inc. Phonics will be hosting lessons on  the Ruth Miskin YouTube for children to watch at home.  Each daily lesson will be shown at 9.30 am and will be available for 24 hours. We will therefore post these links separately shortly after 9.30am.

Today’s sound will be the ‘oo’ sound.

Literacy- To describe.

We will continue to look at the story of Hansel and Gretel this week. Today we would like the children to write a description of the Gingerbread house from the story. They should think carefully about the adjectives they could use to describe the different parts of the house.

Start the lesson by watching the video and then writing a description, using the picture below.

Remember this can be done on lined paper of you can download the worksheet from google classroom.

Maths: Recognise and name 3D shapes.

Watch the video then have a go at the first worksheet. You might try going on a hunt around your home to find different 3D shapes. You could try making a train that is different to the one suggested in the questions, depending on what shapes you have at home. There is also an extra sheet – just in case you want it, but by no means is this a must. You could cut and stick the objects, writing the name of the shape underneath. Or, if you don’t have a printer, you could have a go at drawing the object and writing the shape.

D.T

This term we will be designing and making our own biscuits. For today’s task we would like you to do some research about biscuits!
Find out what your families favourite biscuit is and create a tally. We will use this information to see what the most popular type of biscuit is.

Download (PDF, 100KB)

We would love to see pictures of the children’s work.  Don’t forget to send their work to [email protected] and feel free to email if you need anything! Thank you, Year 1 Staff.

Good morning Year 1

Please see below for today’s tasks.

Phonics and Reading

Read Write Inc. Phonics will be hosting lessons on YouTube for children to watch at home.  Each daily lesson will be shown at 9.30 am and will be available for 24 hours. We will therefore post these links separately shortly after 9.30am.

Today’s sound will be the ‘igh’ sound.

Literacy – To describe a character

This week, we are working on the story Hansel and Gretel.

How could we describe the Witch?

What does she look like?

How does she behave in the story?

Can you think of any adjectives to describe the witch?

Maths

Remember, if printing the worksheets is problematic, please try to record answers wherever you can, thank you.

Today we are going to practise using the – symbol.  Have a look at the video: https://vimeo.com/468501370 then have a go at the questions on your worksheet – the link is here:

History

This half term we will be exploring Victorian toys and comparing them with the toys you enjoy today.

How can we tell if a toy is old or new? Which words might we use to describe old toys? New toys?

Look for some pictures of old and new toys, you might like to do some research or use our sheet below (saved in google classroom). Sort the toys into old and new. You could try a cut and stick method or draw the toys under a heading ‘old’ and ‘new’ on some paper.

Year 1 Home learning timetable

7th January 2021P Mullea

Good Morning everyone.

Thank you so much for your support and patience with our first day of home learning, it is a big change for all of us but it was lovely to see so many of you get involved!

To make things a bit clearer for everyone we have put together a weekly timetable to give you an idea of what’s to come each week.

We must stress this is a guide only and we know that some people may need to adapt things to their own working schedule. Please just do your best and if we can help, please get in touch.

Stay safe, Year 1 teachers 🙂

Maths

This week, we are going to continue our work on subtraction. We will be using White Rose Maths learning materials which will match the objectives covered in school. We know that printing the worksheets could be problematic, if this is the case, please try to record answers wherever you can, thank you.

Before Christmas, we created our own subtraction stories as we know that drawing pictures can help us to solve calculations.  Have a look at the video to refresh your memory: https://vimeo.com/468246766 then have a go at the questions on your worksheet which is attached separately here:

Download (PDF, 1.59MB)

Science

Go on a hunt around the house and collect approximately 10 objects.

Children to name each material – glass/paper/wool/clay pottery/stone/metal/wood/plastic/ fabric/rubber.

Sort the objects by material.  Some objects are made from multiple materials eg. A toy car, a jam jar with lid.

Draw a picture of your object and write a sentence explaining the materials.

We would love to see pictures of the children’s work.  Don’t forget to send work to [email protected] and feel free to email if you need anything! Thank you, Year 1 Staff.
