Year 1 Home learning

5th January 2021P Mullea

Good Afternoon everyone and Happy New Year!

We are sorry we cannot be together for a little while longer but we have lots of exciting activities planned for home learning and are looking forward to getting started. Please see below for further information for tomorrow.

Year 1 Remote learning timetable

Each day we will contact you via Marvellous Me and update the school website (click on the Year 1 tab) to let you know what home learning tasks the children should complete.

We realise that for some it is not possible to access live videos due to working from home, to make this easier to manage, teaching video’s will be uploaded to the school website so they can be accessed at a convenient time.

Each day children will be asked to complete the following sessions:

  1. Phonics- via ‘youtube’ video link
  2. English
  3. Maths
  4. Foundation/topic lesson

If you require any further support please contact Year 1 staff using the email [email protected]. Children should also send images of completed tasks to this email and will receive feedback.

Google Classroom: We will also be offering live sessions for children working from home. We will be using Google Classroom each day.

You should have received your child’s individual log in before the Christmas Holidays. Please try to log on today if you have not yet done so. If you require support to access your account please contact school ASAP.

We will host 2 live meetings a day:

9.15am-9.30am Registration and welcome via Google meet.

Children should log onto their google classroom and access the ‘Year 1’ class. Click on the meeting link to access.

Staff will greet the children and introduce them to today’s tasks.

2.50- 3.05pm Feedback for the day and story time.

Staff will speak to the children about the day’s learning, hear their ideas and feedback on their achievements. We will also be able to support with anything they have found tricky (please let us know via email).

We will share a story with the children and end the day.

We realise this is a difficult time for families and we hope we can make home learning a little easier. If you need any help please get in touch as we are happy to help!

Whole school art project.

17th December 2020ajennings

The children at Harton Primary School have been celebrating their positive attributes as part of a whole school art project. They drew a self-portrait and thought carefully about a positive word to describe themselves, there were some brilliant ideas and fantastic drawings.

The children were able to recognise their best qualities and the things that they like about themselves, helping them to reach their full potential. We were so impressed with how much they celebrate their own achievements and it was so lovely to see how proud of themselves they are.

Year 1 Home learning 17.12.20

17th December 2020P Mullea

Good Morning Year 1 – it’s Thursday! Please see below for today’s tasks:

Phonics and reading:

Children should use the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ty1hgMlJLQ

to revisit the ‘ow’ sound. They could also have a go at writing words with the ow sound in them.

English

In school we have just finished reading The Jolly Postman, in school this week we had planned to hear a little bit more about this friendly character! Please watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jQkDsoPFJE to hear a very special person reading some of this new book.

When you have listened to the story, we would like the children to create a story map, thinking carefully about the different characters The Jolly Postman delivered to and which order they came in.

Maths

Today we would like the children to complete pages 14 and 15 in their Maths activity booklet. Focus is subtracting which we had been working on in school.

We would also love to see the children working on their number formation. Remember the Tentown characters can help with this!

Thank you for your suggestions about the above Christmas artefact.

We can confirm it is a ‘Cornucopia’.  Which was a handmade Victorian Christmas decoration,  filled with treats to go onto tree.

Christmas craft

A snowflake begins life as a tiny drop of super cooled water which freezes in the sky to create an ice crystal.  All snowflakes have six sides or points.  Today we would like you to find a piece of paper to create your own six pointed snowflakes.

We would love to see pictures of the children’s work.  Don’t forget to send work to [email protected] and feel free to email if you need anything! Thank you, Year 1 Staff.

Year 1 Home learning 16.12.20

16th December 2020P Mullea

Good Morning Year 1 – happy Wednesday! We hope everyone is well and ready for another fun day of home learning. Please see below for today’s tasks:

Phonics and reading:

Children should use the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k47CSkUUD8M&t=255s  to revisit the ‘igh’ sound. They could also have a go at writing words with the igh sound in them.

English

We know that lots of the children have got a special visitor at home at the moment. Today we would like to know a little bit about their naughty elf! The children should describe their Elf, tell us their names and what they have been up to this week.  Here is a template that they may want to use.

Try to write in full sentences e.g “He has………, he is ……….”.

Maths

Today we would like the children to complete pages 12 and 13 in their Maths activity booklet. Focus: addition.

We have been working on number bonds in school. Can the children find number bonds for the number 10?

History

The children enjoy finding out about the past.  In our last History session we looked at Christmas Traditional and Modern.  We compared Christmas trees, Christmas cards, Santa Claus and Christmas crackers.  Today we have an artifact for the children to look at and decide what they think it is and its use.

Please email suggestions to [email protected].

We will reveal the answer tomorrow

Christmas Craft

Try making your own.  You will need a square of paper and some cellotape.

We would love to see pictures of the children’s work.  Don’t forget to send work to [email protected] and feel free to email if you need anything! Thank you, Year 1 Staff.

Year 1 Home learning 15.12.20

15th December 2020P Mullea

Good morning everyone, thank you to everyone who sent photos of their wonderful work yesterday! We loved the Christmas decorations. Please see today’s home learning tasks below:

Literacy

As we are approaching Christmas, we would love to know what the children would like to receive on that special day.  As the children have been writing letters to some of the characters in the Jolly Postman story we have been reading, we would like them to write a letter to Santa.  What questions would you like to ask Santa? What will you be asking for as a present this year?

We can’t wait to read them!

Phonics and reading:

Children should use the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93rsDtyjNfk  to revisit the ‘ee’ sound. They could also have a go at writing words with the ee sound in them.

Maths

For Maths today we would like children to take part in the White Rose Activity day “Snowflakes”. Watch the video at https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/activity-week/ and join in with the activity.

RE

The children have been learning all about the Christmas Story.  We would like the children to tell an adult all about the Christmas Story, then create a drawing to depict part of the story.

Don’t forget to send work to pictures of the children’s [email protected] and feel free to email if you need anything!

Thank you, Year 1 Staff.

Year 1 Home learning 14.12.20

14th December 2020Emma Adams

Good morning everyone, we hope you are all ok. This is certainly not the last week of term we had planned but I am sure together we will ensure the children still learn lots and have some festive fun!

This week the children will need to use the books they brought home for home learning, as seen above.

They should complete pages 2 and 3 in the Handwriting book and pages 2, 3, 4 and 5 in their Maths book.

Phonics and reading:

Children should use the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sAGOvIJWjc to revisit the ‘ay’ sound. They could also have a go at writing words with the ay sound in them.

Christmas crafts:

Today the children should have been taking part in some Christmas workshops where they would make their own Christmas decoration using sticks and natural materials. We would like to challenge them to be creative! Using items they can find around the house we would like to see them make their own Christmas decoration.

Don’t forget to send pictures of the children’s work to [email protected] and feel free to email if you need anything!

Thank you, Year 1 Staff.
