This year has been a challenging one to say the least, so our pupils have written some very considerate and compassionate Christmas messages to wish everyone a brighter future.
Our Outdoor Learning Classroom has been temporarily transformed into Harton Grotto! Pupils have enjoyed Christmas stories, Christmas carols, music and hot chocolate. It has been a big hit with everyone, and helped to spread some Christmas cheer!
Good afternoon! Father Paul from St Lawrence’s Church has kindly created a virtual assembly to celebrate the Christian Feast of the Ascension.
As you look around you will be seeing nature beginning to wake up from its long Winter sleep. What can you see in your garden? Blossoms in the trees, buds, bluebells, crocuses, birds returning and even daffodils.
A little while ago in Nursery we looked and some instructions to tell us how to plant and care for daffodil bulbs. We followed the instructions, watered and cared for the bulbs and took them home.
How are your daffodils growing?
On Shrove Tuesday, traditionally people make pancakes. Nursery very much enjoyed preparing the ingredients and mixing the batter for their pancakes. They liked adding the toppings and eating. We think they enjoyed them! What do you think?
Palm Sunday is on Sunday 5th April this year. Year 3 pupils have been learning about the significance of palm crosses to Christians, and about other symbols of Easter.
We loved receiving our Epiphany cards, letters and paper crowns from our penfriends from Noisy-le-Sec. The tradition associated with Epiphany, a Christian feast day on January 6th, was so interesting to read about. We liked the idea of having a galette des rois cake, and wearing a crown to be king or queen for the day.
It has taken a few weeks of patiently sewing to our cross-stitch designs, but the results are impressive. It proved very relaxing, having to think about every stitch. Some of us added a few extra touches. We shared our expertise with others.
It’s Joyeux Noel to Y4C’s penfriends in Paris! We made Christmas card and wrote letters. Children in France don’t send Christmas cards. They send Epiphany cards on January 6th to celebrate a Christian feast day. We are looking forward to receiving our Epiphany cards.

A visitor called Kim came to visit us on Monday. She follows the Jewish faith and regularly attends the synagogue in Newcastle. She brought us lots of Jewish artefacts to see and try on, and lots of objects which help children and adults practise their faith. We answered questions because we had been learning about Hanukkah and aspects of Jewish tradition. She was so interesting!
