Yesterday in Year 2, we looked at things that Christians use to celebrate Easter and how those items link to the Easter story. We looked at items like the communion chalice, crucifixes and crosses, and then we tasted ‘The Lord’s Supper’, some hot cross buns and mini-Easter eggs.
We had a visit from Elizabth, who is a story teller, she told us all about The Easter Story from the bible. Christians believe that Jesus died on a cross then rose again.
Earlier this month, Year 3 had a visit to St Lawrence’s Church to take part in some Advent themed activities in the run up to Christmas, which links well with the topic we have been studying in RE. We’d like to thank Adam the Churchwarden and his wonderful volunteers for welcoming us to the church and the lovely activities they led.
Yesterday, Year 2 completed their RE topic on the importance and symbolism of light at Christmas by making Christingles.
This month, all the year groups have enjoyed a visit from Elizabeth the RE storyteller, who has been teaching us about Christianity and the Nativity story.
On Wednesday, Year-5 took part in a Hinduism workshop as part of our RE topic this half term. The children learned about Hindu beliefs; heard some Hindu stories; looked at artefacts; discussed Hindu gods; learned a little about karma and meditation; learned to dance using Indian Dandiya sticks; and dressed up in some authentic Hindu clothing.
This week Year 3 have had a special visit from Elizabeth who came to teach us even more about the Northern Saints. First we discussed what a saint is, including what a saint is not! We used objects to represent this. After that Elizabeth taught us the stories of St Oswald, St Aidan, St Hilda and St Bede. We learned the important lessons that these saints taught us. Finally, we used ink and a writing quill to practise writing in Latin. We had to take our time just like the monks! They had to be good writers to be chosen to write out the bible.
At the end of last half term, Year 4 enjoyed a visit to St. Lawrence’s church where Father Paul told us all about Lent and the Easter story. We found it very interesting as well as lots of fun.
Last week, we were fortunate enough to have a visit from Elizabeth the RE story teller with us in Year 1 and Year 6 telling us about the Nativity story and why Christmas is important to Christians.
