Harton Choir were randomly selected on Friday 14th February, to be a part of the ‘Choir Of The Year Competition 2025’ at Durham Cathedral.
They had to sing alongside 5 other schools in front of 2 judges.
The children sang ‘Rule The World’ by Take That and they were AMAZING!
Unfortunately, they did not win the competition but they were given some valuable feedback about how they could improve in the future and there were a lot of positive comments about their performance.
At Harton Primary we believe it is vital for all our children to have the opportunity to engage with a wide range of music, through listening, composing, singing, playing and exploring music through cultures and periods of time.
We encourage the children to learn about different artists, who create and perform great pieces of music or art and discuss their similarities or differences.
Each term we listen to music that enhances the children’s knowledge about a particular artist. Music is played during assemblies and the children are taught about the artist specifically in music and art lessons.
Autumn 1
Francis Albert Sinatra (Frank Sinatra) was born on 12th December 1915. He was an American singer and film actor. Sinatra found huge success as a solo artist from the early to mid-1940s after being signed by Columbia Records in 1943. He released his first album, ‘The Voice of Frank Sinatra’ in 1946. His professional career had stalled by the early 1950s, but it was reborn in 1953 after he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the film From Here to Eternity.
By 1961, Sinatra had created his own record label, (Reprise Records) and was singing all over the world. He was a founding member of the ’Rat Pack’ and spent lots of time with famous celebrities (other famous actors in the Rat Pack included Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior).
With sales of his music dwindling and after appearing in several poorly received films, Sinatra retired for the first time in 1971. Two years later, however, he came out of retirement and in 1973 recorded several very successful albums.
Sinatra is one of the best known artists of all time, selling over 50,000,000 records!
Frank Sinatra died on 14th May 1998 as one of the world’s most famous singers.
Reception have been super busy making amazing dreamcatchers! The children have been discussing what their dreams for Year 1 are. They have thought of some amazing things they would like to achieve when they come back to school in September.
Hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, Mental Health Awareness Week takes place from 18-24 May 2020. The theme for the week is kindness.
We know that the children at Harton are very kind. We want to celebrate their kindness by suggesting some activities that they could do during their time at home.

There are lots of jobs to do in the allotment at the moment. We’re tidying the raised beds and pulling up the beetroot and turnips. Soon we’ll start sowing the seeds. Watch this space!
Nursery AM, YRB, Y1H, Y2E, Y3L, Y4C, Y5J and Y6F were our Wellbeing Week Bake Off winners. They all earned themselves a cookery session with our cook, Mrs Seales. Each class chose a recipe to use from their prize of a new recipe book. Everyone enjoyed the experience. A big thank you to Mrs Seales
We are raising awareness of how mental health should be as much a part of our daily routine as our physical health is. Our school assembly reminded us to talk to friends, family members, school staff etc. rather than letting big problems get out of hand.
At break time we could use conversation starter cards to have fun discussing different scenarios with others.
The children asked and answered lots of questions during our whole school No Smoking Day assembly. Their posters and wishes show that they feel well informed from the activities they joined in with that day.
