Five Minute Mindfulness

Joe Wicks PE lessons have been so popular with our pupils, and with pupils all over the world. We know that keeping active is especially important at the moment, and maintaining physical health keeps our body healthy, as well as giving the ‘feel good factor’.

Mental wellbeing is as important to us as our physical health, particularly in recent times. So try taking 5 minutes out of a busy, or tiring day to practise 5 minutes of mindfulness – focusing on the present moment. Mindfulness can relax your body and mind, creating a feeling of calm.

Have a go with Tai chi – you can practise outdoors or indoors.

You’ll soon pick it up, and it could become as much a part of your daily routine as… brushing your teeth! Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed it when Ilona, a local Tai chi instructor, gave us lessons during Health and Wellbeing Week.

Show Racism the Red Card visit KS2

Show Racism the Red Card are always popular visitors. KS2 pupils attended a special assembly, and Year 5 classes were treated to workshops on racist language and discrimination. Their visits always have a positive impact, and give pupils knowledge of how to report incidents.

The School Council discuss British Values

During one of our recent School Council meetings, we reviewed how we have interpreted the key British Values, and how things we do in school reflect them.

Ambition Competition

Pupils across Year 2 to Year 6 have taken part in this year’s Premier League Writing Stars competition. This year’s theme is Ambition, and we have some wonderful poems on display. Let’s hope we are as successful as last year!

Caring about our community

Many of our pupils made cards for some of the people who work hard to protects us, and cards for some people who may be feeling isolated at the moment. We want them to know that they are appreciated, and to know that we are thinking about them.

Palm Sunday – Holy Week

Palm Sunday is on Sunday 5th April this year. Year 3 pupils have been learning about the significance of palm crosses to Christians, and about other symbols of Easter.

Reading stories to support Personal Development

Some of our pupils chose stories about kindness and diversity this World Book Day. ‘Have You Filled a Bucket Today?’ and ‘Red – a Crayon’s Story’ are excellent books on these topics. We have lots of story packs to support PSHE lessons, themed days, assemblies, or impromptu discussions.

Time to Talk Day 2020

We are raising awareness of how mental health should be as much a part of our daily routine as our physical health is. Our school assembly reminded us to talk to friends, family members, school staff etc. rather than letting big problems get out of hand.

At break time we could use conversation starter cards to have fun discussing different scenarios with others.

Epiphany cards from Noisy-le-Sec

We loved receiving our Epiphany cards, letters and paper crowns from our penfriends from Noisy-le-Sec. The tradition associated with Epiphany, a Christian feast day on January 6th, was so interesting to read about. We liked the idea of having a galette des rois cake, and wearing a crown to be king or queen for the day.
