Year 6 are writing lots about tigers this half term in English. At the start of the half term children conducted lots of research and wrote non-chronological reports about tigers and last week the children created their own persuasive adverts for a tiger charity and I am sure you will agree, they are fantastic! We have also been using our sketching skills to create tiger portraits in art lessons. We have some very talented artists!
Congratulations to James, Eva, Sienna and Bonnie in Y6 who are Half Millionaires. The girls have loved the Lottie Brooks books by Katie Kirby and they have all loved reading lots of David Walliams books. Keep up the regular reading!
We have our first Word Millionaire of the academic year 2024-2025.
Congratulations to Esme in Year 6, our very first Millionaire this year. This is an excellent achievement at any point of the year, but to have read over 1,000,000 words in a term is outstanding!
Well done to Oliver and Jayden in Year 6 also for becoming Half Millionaires . The boys have read so much this half term and we know they will be Word Millionaires in no time!
In English, we are reading Grace and family by Mary Hoffman and Caroline Binch. Grace goes to stay with her father in The Gambia and while there she visits a market. This morning, we created our own ‘African market’ and the children tasted different fruits, smelt spices, saw bright, colourful fabrics and heard music and the hustle and bustle of a busy market. We used this as inspiration to write expanded noun phrases which we will include in a setting description of an African market.

Congratulations to Charlie and Archie in Year 6, our 2nd and 3rd Half Millionaires of the year.
We are sure the boys will be Word Millionaires in no time! Keep up the fantastic reading!
Thank you to everyone who attended our book fair recently.
It was wonderful to see the children so enthused about new books.
Thanks to the fantastic turnout, we have raised £370.08 to buy more books for school to support the children and their love of reading.
We look forward to hosting another book fair in April.
A huge congratulations to Esme in Year 6.
Esme is the first Accelerated Reader award winner of the year, having read over 500,000 words already since returning to school in September! As she has achieved this in only 6 weeks, Esme is setting herself the challenge of becoming our first Word Millionaire before Christmas.

Today, YRW had a special visit to our local library. We walked to the library using the road safety rules. During our visit we listened to the Librarian read ‘Tickly Octopus’ then we explored a range of books. We even coloured and made our own bookmarks.
