We are incredibly proud of our year 3, 4, 5 and 6 pupils who participated in the national Leaders Award competition, where children are posed the question ‘If you were an engineer, what would you do?’ The children are tasked with identifying a problem and designing an invention to solve that problem. They created labelled diagrams of their invention and wrote letters to a panel of judges explaining what their invention did and the inspiration behind it. Out of thousands of children who took part, over 70 of our children were shortlisted to the final round of judging and had their work displayed at Sunderland University.
We are also delighted to announce that Carter, in year 6, was announced as the winner for the north east of England for his invention of the Emergency Stop System! Carter’s invention would help people cross the road safely and it would be especially beneficial for people with visual impairments.
Check out the amazing entries!
Thank you to everyone who attended our book fair recently.
It was wonderful to see the children so enthused about new books.
Thanks to the fantastic turnout, we have raised £554.68 to buy more books for school to support the children and their love of reading.
We look forward to hosting another book fair next academic year.
Congratulations to our latest batch of AR Half Millionaires.
We have winners from Year 5 and Year 6 and even a Year 3 pupil!
We are so proud of them all.
Congratulations to our latest batch of AR Award Winners in Year 6.
Ella. Isla and Joel are now proud Word Millionaires and Amelia, Cameron, Isaac. Owen, Kenny, Will, Caitlin and Darcie are now Half Millionaires! They have all taken exciting books home with them from the library to continue their reading over the Easter Break.
World Book day is always one of our favourite days of the year and this one was amazing thanks to the wonderful efforts of our children. It was so lovely to see so many lovely characters from the stories we know and love.
Throughout the day the children took part in a range of book related activities and enjoyed discussing how they could have different careers with books, including becoming an Author or illustrator.
We also held our Book swap event- giving the children a chance to swap an unwanted book from home for a new one to refresh their collections. Thank you for the wonderful donations.
It was a fantastic day!
Congratulations to our latest batch of Half Millionaires!
Imogen, Sapphire, Bonnie and Esme will be Millionaires in no time!
Well done and keep up the regular reading.
Y2L had a fantastic day at The Oriental Museum to learn more about China as part of our English and Geography topic this half term.
We loved using our drama skills to find out about the story of the Chinese Zodiac, taking a quiz to learn animal representations, investigating artefacts to answer questions and creating our own shadow puppets. We then had lots of fun exploring more artefacts, taking part in the story of Nian and even having our own dragon dance.
Congratulations Joel, our latest Half Millionaire!
Achieving this just before the half way point of the academic year means Joel is on track to become a Word Millionaire by the end of Y6. Well done Joel!
Another month has past us by and the children continue to impress us with their super reading abilities.
This month’s readers we were chosen for their AMAZING reading abilities but also because staff have noticed them working well with others, being good reading partners, helping others to choose new texts and always giving 100% effort with reading at home and in school.
We continue to be impressed and find it tricky to choose just one child a month!
As always the children got to pick a prize to take home, selecting a book from our collection. They were very excited to see the huge new range of texts which had been delivered and spotted some of their favourite authors!
A special mention to Scarlett from Y2 who has just started using AR but is trying really hard on her quizzes, to Lyla from Y1 who always helps her partner to correct mistakes when reading, to Dexter from Y3 who helps others to find new Non-fiction texts and quiz on AR and to Louie from Y5 for his fantastic AR results and for reading at home frequently.
Well done to all of our ‘Readers of the Month’. We hope you enjoy your new books.
