This week Year 3 have been writing a poem inspired by the song ‘What a Wonderful World’ by Louis Armstrong. We shared ideas about what makes our world wonderful to prepare for our poem. We then thought carefully about the rhythm and beat of each line, some of us even included rhyming couplets.
Today we worked in groups to perform our poems to our classmates. They were fabulous!
Congratulations to our latest batch of Half Millionaires in Y6.
Ella, Maizie, Elizabeth, Megan and Nathan are all determined to become Word Millionaires soon. Keep up the fantastic work!
Another huge congratulations to Harry in Y6, our first Word Millionaire of the year., What a fantastic achievement – well done Harry!
Harry likes to read long, fiction books and some of his favourite authors include J.K. Rowling, David Walliams and Philip Pullman.
During English, Year 4 have read two stories from other cultures: Gregory Cool, which is set in Tobago, and Grace & Family, which is set in The Gambia. We transported ourselves to an African market, where we sampled a range of fruits and vegetables grown there. We also listened to traditional African music and admired the beautiful fabrics used to make clothes. We were inspired to write a detailed setting description from our visit.
Congratulations to our Reader’s of the Month who were chosen for their attitude towards Reading and taking care of our books and library spaces.
A special shout out to Harry in Y6 who is our first Word Millionaire of the year!, How amazing!
Well done to Amelia in Y6 who takes excellent care of our library, spending playtimes and lunchtimes organising the shelves and helping others.
We are also very proud of Hallie in Y3, Archie in Y4 and Scarlett from Y1, who make an extra effort to read at home and take great care of our books.
Congratulations to Isla in Y6 who is our second Half Millionaire this academic year.
Isla has been reading the ‘Series of Unfortunate Events’ books and is now onto the 9th book in the series: The Carnivorous Carnival and she plans to finish the series in the hope of becoming a Word Millionaire soon.
Well done Isla!
Year 3 have loved reading the story ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl. We also looked at a version of the story that had been adapted into a play script. We chose our favourite chapter from the Twits story and wrote it up as a play script.
After that we worked in groups to act it out, one member of each group took on the role of the narrator while the other two had the less fortunate job of playing the disgusting Mr. and Mrs. Twit.
When we had finished rehearsing our version of the scene, we then had to perform to an audience of our classmates. We were given a Success Criteria of being able to speak clearly, be as expressive as possible, engage with our audience while trying not to read from our script too much. The final results, given the fact this was our first attempt, were fantastic! There are some definite future acting talents in year 3!
Congratulations to our first Accelerated Reading Award Winner of 2023/2024.
Harry in Y6 has become our first Half Millionaire of the year. A fantastic achievement so early on into the academic year and we have no doubt he will be a Word Millionaire very soon.
Well done Harry!

Around the world Black History is celebrated during Black History Month. This is a time set aside each year to celebrate the achievements of black men and women in the past and today.
We know that all people should be treated equally but sadly, this isn’t always the case, and many groups of people around the world still suffer as a result of discrimination. Thankfully, there are some amazing people who have done incredible things to fight for equality. Over the past few weeks, each year group has been learning about a different inspirational person.
Today we all joined together in assembly to share who we have been learning about.
Take a look below at what each year group has been learning!
