We were very lucky to have the writer, poet and rapper Christian Foley work with Year 1 today.
Year 1 helped to create raps and poems, he shared some of his poems and stories with us. We wrote our own poem called ‘I find words’.
We had an amazing morning!

Wow! What a flurry of award-winning readers we have had recently. Congratulations to Sophie in Y4 and Jayden and Archie in Y6 who are now Word Millionaires and also to Maximus, Harry and Hallie in Y4; Betsy in Y5 and Jade and Max in Y6 who are now Half Millionaires. We are so proud of them all!
Congratulations to Louie in Year 6 who is now a Half Millionaire. Louie said he is determined to be a Word Millionaire by July and we know he can do it!
Y2L had lots of fun at Seven Stories today. We were illustrators to our own story, took part in a traditional tales workshop and explored many books and authors.
Congratulations to Maisy in Year 6 on achieving her Half Millionaire award. Maisy won this last year also, along with her Word Millionaire award and she is off to a great start towards achieving her Millionaire status yet again.
Y2L visited The Oriental Museum to learn about and explore the culture of China, including Chinese New Year, symbolism, shadow puppets and the Chinese Zodiac. We even took part in a dragon dance. We also discussed the similarities and differences between China and the UK.
As part of our Literacy this half term Year 1 have been reading Hansel and Gretel. We visited Seven Stories in Newcastle to explore Traditional Tales.
We journeyed deep into enchanted woods to discover how stories are crafted to captivate and inspire. We carried out a workshop to unravel the secrets of story structure and unleash creativity to piece together a tornado of tangled tales.
This was inspired by a host of traditional tales from our collection of work including Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and much more!
We had a great day exploring, we were also able to see the Tiger Who Came to Tea Exhibition with story and Mog, the forgetful cat.
