As part of Science Week, year 6 are studying animals including humans.
To begin with, we looked at the 11 systems in our bodies and then focused on our circulatory system.
What better way to understand our hearts than to see one?
After putting on our gloves and aprons and setting some safety rules, we began to explore some lambs’ hearts.
There were lots of funny faces pulled and odd noises coming from some of year 6, but everyone who chose to feel and explore the hearts agreed they were pleased to have done it.
Lots of things surprised us about the hearts – the shape, how squishy they were, how hard the fat surrounding them was and how little space there was for the blood to go into.
