It was lovely to see so many of you at our meeting on Thursday. For those of you who were unable to attend, here is the information we shared. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
On World Book Day we created book profiles of authors who have written series of books. These are going to be displayed in our Accelerated Reader library to promote some of our favourite authors to children who may not have discovered them yet.
We had a great day celebrating World Book Day too. Check out our costumes!
In Y6 this half term we are learning all about rivers. We have been using UK atlases and World atlases to find rivers. We have used the index and the located the rivers using coordinates, identifying the river sources, tributaries and the river mouth.
Congratulations to Lucy in Y5L. She has become Y5’s second Half Millionaire, reading over 500,000 words this academic year. Well done Lucy.
Congratulations to children in Mrs Fawkes’ English class who achieved their Points Target on Accelerated Reader last half term. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and motivation towards reaching their target.
We are incredibly proud of our Harton Primary Puzzlers team this year. They represented South Tyneside in the national First Lego League final. They were polite, hardworking and enthusiastic throughout the day despite their very early morning start! They reached the final 12 knockout stage of the robotics game and even came away with the IET Innovation Award. They received this award for their detailed, inventive project idea as well as their fantastic gameshow-style presentation, interesting robot programming and design and their phenomenal teamwork. Well done, Harton Puzzlers.
Check out one of our robot games.

Ten Year 6 children today represented the school in a Boccia tournament held at Temple Park. The children had a fantastic time and played to a really high standard. Two of our teams met in a quarter final and the winners progressed to the final and were unlucky to lose by a narrow margin.
This month we were very excited to be able to celebrate our Reader’s of the month on World Book Day! The children have been chosen because of their fantastic achievements in Reading at school and at home.

Congratulations, we hope you enjoy reading your new books at home.
We have our first WORD MILLIONAIRE of the academic year.
Congratulations to Harry in Y6A who is our first millionaire. We are so proud of him and this wonderful achievement. Harry is a huge fan of the Harry Potter books and he is currently working his way through the Series of Unfortunate Events books. Harry said he loves to read every night before he goes to sleep.
Harry has received an engraved trophy, certificate and a book of his choice as a reward.
We also have some Half Millionaires to congratulate! Well done to Lily in Y6D and Erin in Y5L (first in Year 5).
What superstar readers we have here at Harton!
Lots of our children have requested more higher level non-fiction texts in our Accelerated Reader library.
We have a wide range of new books on so many topics including space, sport and history.
Why not have a browse next time you are in the AR library?
Happy reading!
