Boccia County Finals

Three children from Harton primary recently represented not only the school but also South Tyneside in a Boccia tournament held at Gateshead Stadium. In the group stages against schools from Newcastle, Sunderland, North Tyneside, Northumberland and Gateshead, the children were fantastic, won every game, and progressed to the knockout stages. In a very tense semi-final, the children beat the highest ranked team in Sunderland and made it to the final. In an incredibly close game, the children were unlucky to lose by less than 1cm to the other South Tyneside entry, East Boldon.

We are very proud of all of the children who took part in the Primary Engineer Leader’s Award competition. They had to design an invention which would solve a problem they had identified. Over 30,000 children across the country took part and 14 of our children had their work displayed at the Discover Museum. Amelie, from year 4, received the ‘highly commended’ status for her robotic headset design which would allow people to carry out dangerous jobs from a safe location. Oliver and Asmin, also from year 4, were the overall winners for year 4 in the north east of England! Oliver designed the Litter Drone 3000 which sensed and collected rubbish, including waste that was hidden. Asmin designed a Glass Eye which would allow those people who are blind or have poor eyesight to see again. What phenomenal engineers we have at Harton!

Our amazing Year 6s!

We are so proud of our Year 6 children who have completed their SATs this week. The children have worked incredibly hard in the lead up to and during their SATs. Today they have received their Leavers’ Hoodies and they are ready to continue to work hard as well as look forward to some exciting trips, visitors and lessons.
Well done Year 6!

Year 6 – Harton Academy PE Kit Info

In September 2022, Harton Academy will be introducing a new PE kit for the new year 6 intake. The kit can be sourced from Bolam Sports, South Shields. Bolam Sports will be coming to the new intake evening in July, where children can be sized for the kit. Further information will be in the Transition booklet which will be sent out to parents later in the term.

Hadrian’s Wall 1900th Anniversary Festival

This year Hadrian’s Wall is celebrating its 1900th anniversary. Years 1 to 6 took part in online workshops delivered by Tyne and Wear Museums as part of their ‘Virtual Hadrian’s Wall Day’.

We are working on a very exciting project in school. We have all been learning about Hadrian’s Wall and every child has made their own ‘fact brick’. We look forward to sharing the finished project with you soon!

Congratulations to Conner (Y6F) and Jack (Y5F) who have become our latest Half Millionaires, reading over 500,000 words this academic year.

Another huge well done to some of the children in Mrs Fawkes’ English group also who have worked so hard on their reading this half term and achieved their points target on Accelerated Reader. Well done everyone!

The Y6 children have loved reading Macbeth this half term and have completed some fantastic pieces of writing including diary entries, letters, play scripts, characters descriptions and even their own version of the witches’ poem and chant.

Congratulations Lily (Y6D) who is now a Word Millionaire. We are so proud of Lily’s wonderful achievement. Lily loves reading and this year she has developed a love for the Harry Potter novels, reading all 7 novels in the space of a few months. She is now reading the “His Dark Materials” series by Philip Pullman. Well done Lily!
