Today we are going to continue our new unit Beowulf. Before you start today’s video lesson on your Google classroom, we would like you to think about the questions below:
Where is the story set?
What has happened in the story so far?

Now you are ready to begin today’s video lesson.

Your task
Today you are going to create a plan to describe the two contrasted settings. You can use the template attached below, or simply create your own template on paper. Remember to think about your different senses. What would you hear? What would you see? What would you smell?

History
How did Britain become part of the Roman Empire?

Log into your Google Classroom – use the PowerPoint lesson and online page linked below to learn all about the Roman Empire. Don’t forget to make notes as you go, you can do this on the sheet provided below or on some paper you have at home.

Your Task
Task 1- Make table to show your arguments for/against fighting against the Romans.

Extension- If you get finished, write a statement as a Celt deciding what you would do.

In our corridor we have put up a brand new Roman display- it’s looking good but all it needs is your fabulous work. Don’t forget to send your work to [email protected] and your work could be picked!

Good Morning Year 3!

Maths
Today’s maths is a getting to know the method for multiplying 2 digits by 1 digit without exchanging.

Starter: Time yourself to write down your 4 and 8 X tables can you notice the pattern? Does this make you write them quicker knowing this pattern? Do this twice up to 12 x 8 and 12 x 8 – write your fastest time in the comments box below.

Main Activity: Watch the video link: http://https://vimeo.com/486331580

Complete the worksheet attached using the method shown in the video to work out your answers – don’t forget to take a photo of your working out and upload it to your assignment.

English
Today in English we are starting our new unit- Myths and Legends! We will be introducing a new story called Beowulf that we know you are all going to love! Remember to watch the video lesson on your Google Classroom before you begin your work.

Your Task
You are going to create your own hero that could defeat Grendel. Remember to exaggerate to make your hero sound as great as possible (heroes in myths are usually exaggerated because they must appear naturally greater than normal people).

Extension
If you finish your paragraph you might want to create a sketch of your hero.

We would love to see your work so don’t forget to share it with us at [email protected]

Science
Today, we will be completing our second science lesson on animals including humans. We will be learning about the three different skeleton types. Begin the lesson with the attached PowerPoint.

Starter: Watch the ‘What is a vertebrate?’ and ‘What is an invertebrate?’ videos. You will find the videos on the following website:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zn22pv4
Continue the PowerPoint slides until you reach the starter page. You will then be required to categorise the animals into endoskeletons, exoskeletons and hydrostatic skeletons. You can print the attached word document or simply create your own table to categorise the animals.

Main Activity:
Today, you are going to create a poster. You must include the following:
– The three skeleton types (endoskeleton, exoskeleton and hydrostatic skeleton)
– Definitions of the three skeleton types
– Examples of animals for each skeleton type
– Scientific language (vertebrate/invertebrate)
– Interesting facts!
* You can use your electronic devices to research further information.

Challenge:
Here are four animals: a snail, lizard, caterpillar and squid. Which one of these four animals are NOT an invertebrate?

Enjoy learning all about different types of skeletons and send some of your amazing posters to [email protected]
We can’t wait to see all of your fabulous work!

History
Our new history topic this half term is the Romans. Around 2,000 years ago, the city of Rome was at the centre of a huge empire that stretched from Scotland to Syria. One of the main reasons that the Roman Empire was able to expand so greatly was the power of its army. Follow the BBC Bite size link below to complete your research and answer the questions on the worksheet.

Year 3 Remote Learning

5th January 2021C Whitehead

Good Afternoon everyone and Happy New Year!

We are sorry we cannot be together for a little while longer but we have lots of exciting activities planned for home learning and are looking forward to getting started. Please see below for further information for tomorrow.

Year 3 Remote learning timetable

Each day we will contact you via Marvellous Me and update the school website (click on the Year 3 tab) to let you know what home learning tasks the children should complete. Each task will be available on Google Classroom in the Year 3 Folder. All children should be familiar with logging onto Google Classroom, however, if you require further support contact us on [email protected] and we can provide a step by step guide.

Time table

Here is a timetable that can be used as a guide. We realise that for some it is not possible to access live videos due to working from home, to make this easier to manage, teaching video’s will be uploaded to Google Classroom so they can be accessed at a convenient time.

Each day children will be asked to complete the following sessions:

  1. Maths
  2. English
  3. Foundation/topic lesson
  4. Reading

If you require any further support please contact Year 3 staff using the email [email protected]. Children should also send images of completed tasks to this email and will receive feedback. We look forward to seeing all of their amazing work.

Live Sessions

We will also be offering live sessions for children working from home. This will be held on a Google meet, which can be accessed via Google Classroom.

We will host 2 live meetings a day:

10:00-10:15 Registration and welcome via Google meet.

Children should log onto their google classroom and access the ‘Year 3’ class. Click on the meeting link to access.

Staff will greet the children and introduce them to today’s tasks.

2.45- 3.00pm Feedback for the day and catch up!

Staff will speak to the children about the day’s learning, hear their ideas and feedback on their achievements. We will also be able to support with anything they have found tricky (please let us know via email).

We realise this is a difficult time for families and we hope we can make home learning a little easier. If you need any help please get in touch as we are happy to help!

Whole school art project.

17th December 2020ajennings

The children at Harton Primary School have been celebrating their positive attributes as part of a whole school art project. They drew a self-portrait and thought carefully about a positive word to describe themselves, there were some brilliant ideas and fantastic drawings.

The children were able to recognise their best qualities and the things that they like about themselves, helping them to reach their full potential. We were so impressed with how much they celebrate their own achievements and it was so lovely to see how proud of themselves they are.
