Y3 have shown amazing skills this week in resilience, teamwork and inclusion and innovation! We have worked hard to design, create, test and showcase our final models and we are super proud of our achievements!
Today we had a special visitor all the way from the South of Africa. He told us all about the culture of music in Africa and how important it is in his country- Zimbabwe. It is a part of religious ceremonies, festivals, and rituals. Songs are used for the important events in a person’s life, for example when they are born. We all played a beat together and the powerful force of sound was amazing! We then played a game to help us practise our rhythm and beat.
Today the children were set another exciting task to build their own creation that represented energy source, disruption or consumption. Take a look at our masterpieces!
Today we developed our coding skills by adding a motor to our models. We followed instructions to build a house and coded it to have flashing lights and even sound! Next we built a car and designed a code that enabled us to navigate it around the mat making sure we didn’t collide with our other models.

Another great day of fun in our Lego League challenge! Today we thought about what examples of energy consumption are in our community. Then we worked in our teams to build a carousel by carefully following the instructions. We coded our model so the motor allowed it to rotate, then we thought about our codes and changed it so the ride could spin in different directions and at different speeds. Our next task was to change the ride into a wind turbine. We worked together in teams to brainstorm our ideas and how we could maximize energy capture. By working together showing inclusion and innovation we were able to complete the task together!

Today we learned that energy is any source that creates a change in matter. We learned about the two different types of energy renewable and non-renewable. We then researched sources of renewable energy and thought about where we can find them in our community before moving on to creating models of consumers of energy and energy sources.
May has been a really busy month in school but the children have still found time to impress staff with their excellent reading.
This month we were on the look out for children who have a great attitude to reading and make an extra effort with their home reading.
A special mention to Lucas in Year 1 who not only has a great attitude to reading he helps his little sister too by teaching her how to read!
Well done to Sienna in Year 4 who reading extra books at home as well as her home readers!
Lastly to Jack in Year 6 who reads so regularly at home he has become a word millionaire!
This week Y3 looked at what causes a tsunami, the damage caused by tsunamis’ and how we can keep safe during a tsunami. We worked in small groups to create our own tsunami to see just how powerful they would be. We discussed the after effects of a tsunami by looking at lots of different images of the damage they have caused. We then thought about the safety precautions we could take in the event of a tsunami.
Over this half term, Y3 have been looking at warm and cold colours using the colour wheel. We have created a new piece of artwork each week. We created pieces of artwork using primary, secondary, complimentary and harmonious colours before finally completing a masterpiece using all techniques of colour mixing we have learned to produce a landscape water colour painting of both warm and cool colours.
Take a look at our masterpieces we have created – we are very proud of our achievements!
Today our parents joined us for the last session of History Club. We talked about the history of bridges across the River Tyne and the building of the famous Tyne Bridge. We then made our very own Tyne Bridge using junk modelling materials.
