Morning year 2,

All work is available on Google Classroom. There are videos, boards and worksheets to help you complete the set tasks.

English:

Today’s Learning Objective is to use the correct punctuation.
You will know what full stops, capital letters, commas, exclamation marks, apostrophes and question marks are.
and by the end of the tasks you will be able to use full stops, capital letters, commas exclamation marks, apostrophes and question marks correctly.
There are three tasks. They get harder. Your job is to add the correct punctuation to the sentences. Use the smart board to help you.

Maths:

Today’s maths lesson will be focusing on adding 2 digit numbers and will be taught live on Google Classroom at 9:30.
You can draw a number line to help you and use tens and ones to check your answer.

Art:

Today we are going to sketch our own seaside picture in the style of Zoe Emma Scott, a local artist.
Take a close look at her landscape drawings and see if you can find any similarities and differences? What do you notice that is the same?
Now it’s your turn to sketch your own. Have you included the square birds or a dog?You will need a piece of paper, pencil and either, colouring pencils, pens or paint.
Any work you wish to send in or any questions, please contact us on [email protected]

Year 2 remote learning 23.6.21

23rd June 2021Ms C Smith

Morning year 2,

Happy Wednesday 🙂

All work for today is available on Google Classroom. Please continue sending us your work either on Google Classroom or via the year 2 email.

 English:

Today you are going to use speech.

You will be able to recognise what speech is and how to let the reader know someone is speaking. You will then use the correct punctuation when using speech.

Using the link provided on Google Classroom, listen to the story ( scroll down and you will see a video for a story) and see if you can spot when someone is speaking.

Then, thinking about Cinderella and the Wicked Step Mother write some speech sentences about what you think they might say. You then could even act it out with someone in your house.

Maths:
In today’s maths lesson you will be adding 2 digit number using a number line and tens and ones to help you. There are 2 work sheets to choose from including one which is a bit trickier.
This lesson will be taught live on Google Classroom at 9:30.
Science:
This week in Science, we are continuing with our plants topic. Today, we would like you to go on a plant hunt! This sounds like lots of fun! I hope the weather stays dry for you all!
You will need a pencil, scissors and colouring pencils.
If you need to contact us at all please do so using [email protected]
Year 2

22nd June 2021Ms C Smith

Morning, all work for today is available on Google Classroom.

English:

Today you will be writing a character description of the Wicked Step Mother from Cinderella.
Remember:

Maths:

The lesson will be taught live on Google Classroom at 9:30.
Today’s lesson is subtraction using tens and ones and a number line. This is something we have done before in school and paper can be used to draw tens and ones or a number line to help you work out the calculations.

Geography:

This half term, we have started learning about the seaside and identified many seaside locations in the U.K. Today we would like you to create your own poster to encourage people to come to visit our beautiful seaside in South Shields.
You will need a piece of paper, pencil and either pens or pencils to decorate your poster.

Morning all,

Hope you all had a super weekend and ready for some super fun learning this week.

All work is on Google Classroom. Live sessions will be 9.30 for maths and 2.30.

English:

Today we are going to be looking at the Wicked Step Mother from the story Cinderella. She is a ‘ bad’ character.
Your job is to plan your descriptive words and phrases to describe her.
Think about personality and appearance. Watch the video on Google Classroom to help you with your work.

Maths:

Maths today will be taught live on Google Classroom at 9:30.
The lesson focus is on addition and subtraction of 10.
Please choose the worksheet you would like to complete as there are 2 uploaded, one being a bit trickier if you would like to challenge yourself!

PE:

Last week we learned some fantastic Indian style dance moves during our session with Kalpesh. For P.E. this week, we would like you to use these moves to choreograph our own short dance routine. You could even play some Indian music to dance along with.

Take a look at our dancing videos on the school website if you need some inspirations.

Can your grown up follow your dance sequence?

Any questions please contact the year 2 team at the year 2 email.

Year 2

Thursday 17th June Year 2 remote learning

17th June 2021Ms C Smith

Good morning year 2,

All your activities for today are on Google Classroom.

Your tasks today are:

English:

Today’s English is to write a character description of Cinderella. Try and think back to your adjectives and similes that you used on Tuesday in school. This will help you when writing your character description.
Paragraph 1: Appearance. Tell me what she looks like.
Paragraph 2: Personality. What she is like on the inside.
Challenge:
Paragraph 3: Give me your personal opinion about Cinderella. What is she like? Why do you think that? Remember to include:  adjectives, a range of punctuation, a simile and try and use your best handwriting.

Art:

Today we are going to make a Father’s Day cards for your wonderful dads or special people. I have attached a photo of the card we would have been doing at school which requires 1 piece of card, 3 different coloured pieces of paper cut into different sized circles and two tassels made with paper.
First, fold the card in half to make a card.
The tassels are glued onto the card first then add the 3 circles (largest first).
Next, write ‘No. 1’ on the last circle.
Finally, the children can write a lovely message to their chosen person inside of the card.

Maths:

Maths work for today, this lesson will be taught live on Google Classroom at 9:30.
We are continuing on with the work we are doing in school and today’s lesson is focusing on adding and subtracting 1s.
There are two choices of worksheet, one being more challenging so it’s up to you which one you choose.

There will be 2 live sessions every day.

On a morning the live session will be Maths. This will start at 9.30am.

On an afternoon, the live session will be a surprise of something exciting that we do in school regularly. It could be a story, GoNoodle or a game.

Below are the codes for Google Classroom. You should all have logins and passwords. If you need reminded of them please contact the year 2 email.

Super Science in year 2!

20th May 2021ajennings

In Science this term, year 2 have been learning all about everyday materials and their properties.

They have carried out  experiments to investigate the suitability of materials for different purposes.

The children tested which material would be the best to make a toy boat for Peter Rabbit to escape the flood in Mr McGregor’s garden. They decided that the material should be waterproof, strong and able to float. They placed different materials in water to see whether they sank or floated. The children learned that although some materials did stay afloat, they might not make a very good boat!

Peter then decided that it would be even better to build a bridge so they investigated which material would be the most suitable for this job. The children had a brilliant time constructing a small bridge with materials such as foil, paper, card, plastic straws and wooden sticks then testing how many weights they could hold before collapsing. Can you guess which material was the strongest?

20th May 2021Ms C Smith

This week we have been visited by Mr Hunton who came to teach us about Eco fish and how important it is to recycle.

We looked at different items made out of recycled materials, why recycling is important and what we can do to help.

Some of us then made our own Eco fish.
