‘Words empower children to make sense of the world around them”
We recognise the importance of widening our children’s vocabulary.
Every day our children are given a “Word of the day” from Vocabulary Ninja.
Children read the word, the definition and they are given the opportunity to apply it to a sentence.

We are very excited in year 1 this week to start our home reading books.
Children will take home their reading books every Monday and are to return them to school every Friday.
Children will be rewarded on Friday for returning their reading books.

Welcome back!
We have had a fantastic first week in year 1. The children have all worked super hard and we couldn’t be prouder of their effort and commitment already.
We know that this year is going to be a great one!

South Tyneside Libraries will be delivering this year’s Summer Reading Challenge from the council’s multi-service ‘hubs’ (The Word, Cleadon Park, Hebburn Central and Jarrow Focus) and the volunteer run library Boldon and Cleadon Community Library and Perth Green Community Library located with Perth Green Community Association.
The theme for this year’s challenge is ‘Wild World Heroes’, a nature-themed challenge created in partnership with WWF that will inspire you to stand up for the planet.
The challenge starts tomorrow (Saturday 10th July) and runs up until Saturday 25th September.

The children in Y1M were surprised with a special visitor on Monday, John from West Boldon Lodge. He joined us at school for a day of activities as part of our Science topics including Green plants and Living things and the environment.
We had a fantastic day, it was so much fun. Here are some of the things we got up to.

Daily tasks and lessons:
Today there will be an English activity, Maths activity and a Science activity for the children to complete.
Please check google classroom for these tasks.

We will post the activities each day for the children along with videos where possible to help out with the activities.
Today there will be an English activity, Maths activity and an RE activity.

Year 1 Staff.
We had our first sports visitor of the year last week when Michael from Durham C.C. came in to work with children in Years 1-4. All the children had a fantastic time learning new skills.
