We are very proud of the children, who have been learning to sing Count On Me by Bruno Mars. The song conveys the message of comfort found in a friend and being present for those who are important to them. We encourage the children to be a good friend, to support and be there for one another.
We have celebrated their friendships by singing in assembly.
The children sing the song so beautifully! They never fail to impress!

What shall we sing next?
Places of the future.
Today the children were challenged to think about building a place where hobbies and interests are performed and shared with others. The children worked well in teams to create innovative designs which were also accessible to all.
Today Reception talked about different places we could host a show. Then we designed and built our own show using Lego. Next, we looked behind the scenes and talked about different jobs people might have at theatres, museums and galleries. After that, we build objects, tools and vehicles that the people doing these jobs might use. It was so much fun !!!
STEM Week Day 3
Today the children discussed how to improve the experience of a performance through the use of visual effects and moving parts. They created a model vehicle and coded it to move forwards and backwards. They used this knowledge to begin planning their own project which would incorporate some movement. They discussed the various hobbies they have and thought about where they could showcase this and began to design their team project.

This month our readers of the month were chosen because they show super effort with home reading; responsibly looking after their books and returning them each week. We also noticed children who make a super effort to look after our library spaces around school. They are all superstars!
Well done to all of our Reader’s for April. A special shout out for Kyle in Y5 who has made a spectacular 3 years of progress in his star reading assessment!

This half term we have been learning all about toys from the past. We have been exploring how toys have changed from Victorian times to Modern day and trying hard to use historical vocabularly. We can discuss old toys and their properties and discuss how they are different to toys we have today.
As part of our topic we were visited by ‘That History Bloke’- Richard. We had a fantastic time learning all about life in Victorian times and we even got the chance to play with some Victorian toys! We were excited to see the kind of things children in those times would have played with including Thaumatrope’s and Spinning tops! Some toys are still around today like Yo-Yo’s although they would be made out of plastic now.
We also visited the Discovery Museum and got to see even more Victorian toys. We are now experts in spotting which toys are from the past and which are modern. We took part in workshops were we even got to make our own Victorian toys and completed a hunt around the museum for Victorian toys using clues. We had a fantastic day!
Year 2 have enjoyed reading a new text this week in English. ‘The Magic Paintbrush’ is a folktale set in China. The children worked together to create storyboards which they used to retell the story in their own words. 
Our fabulous Year 5 mini police team had a very interesting visit to the mounted section of Northumbria Police on Tuesday 23rd January. They were able to meet the horses and learn lots about the work that the mounted section does. They learned about the horses’ involvement in managing crowds at large events, and how they help in searches when someone has gone missing. They even met a horse and police officer who were in attendance for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth. It was a really interesting and enjoyable morning, and as always they were fabulous ambassadors for the school.
Every year in England, school children in reception and year 6 have their height and weight
checked at school as part of the National Child Measurement Programme. These checks will take place for children currently in Reception and Year 6 at Harton Primary School in January 2024.
