Stone Age Cave Artists

In History, we have been learning about the Stone Age.
So far we have found out when the Stone Age occurred on a timeline of different civilisations, learnt about hunter-gatherers and found out about some Stone Age settlements.

This week we looked at some Stone Age cave art and then created our own using charcoal.

Artist of the Term – Autumn

At Harton Primary we believe it is vital for all our children to have the opportunity to engage with a wide range of music, through listening, composing, singing, playing and exploring music through cultures and periods of time.

We encourage the children to learn about different artists, who create and perform great pieces of music or art and discuss their similarities or differences.

Each term we listen to music that enhances the children’s knowledge about a particular artist. Music is played during assemblies and the children are taught about the artist specifically in music and art lessons.

Autumn 1

Francis Albert Sinatra (Frank Sinatra) was born on 12th December 1915. He was an American singer and film actor. Sinatra found huge success as a solo artist from the early to mid-1940s after being signed by Columbia Records in 1943. He released his first album, ‘The Voice of Frank Sinatra’ in 1946. His professional career had stalled by the early 1950s, but it was reborn in 1953 after he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the film From Here to Eternity.

By 1961, Sinatra had created his own record label, (Reprise Records) and was singing all over the world. He was a founding member of the ’Rat Pack’ and spent lots of time with famous celebrities (other famous actors in the Rat Pack included Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior).

With sales of his music dwindling and after appearing in several poorly received films, Sinatra retired for the first time in 1971. Two years later, however, he came out of retirement and in 1973 recorded several very successful albums.

Sinatra is one of the best known artists of all time, selling over 50,000,000 records!

Frank Sinatra died on 14th May 1998 as one of the world’s most famous singers.

Reception’s End of Year Stay and Play

Reception performed their final stay and play.  We sang songs, decorated cakes, biscuits and created a hanging decoration.  We ended our stay and play by showing our amazing dance moves.  We had so much fun!!!

Stem Week The Finale in Year 2

5th July 2024H Langley

Today we prepared for our Team Event. We thought about what questions people may ask us e.g. Why did you create your model? How did you use the core values? How does the poster show your team journey? We worked as a team so that we were all confident in sharing our learning and celebrating our success. The Event went really well and everyone was impressed with our innovative ideas.

We were extremely happy to receive our well-deserved ‘build your own’ medal, lanyard and certificate.

STEM Week – Day 4 in Year 2

In today’s session we created a team model to showcase our chosen talents and interests. We explored how to use technology in creative ways and enjoyed adding  motors, sensors  and lighting to our builds. We used coding to make either the motor or light function on our models and tested the programmes to ensure the code did what we wanted it to do

STEM Week Day 3

Today the children discussed how to improve the experience of a performance through the use of visual effects and moving parts. They created a model vehicle and coded it to move forwards and backwards. They used this knowledge to begin planning their own project which would incorporate some movement. They discussed the various hobbies they have and thought about where they could showcase this and began to design their team project.

STEM Week – Day 2 in Year 2

2nd July 2024H Langley

Today we started learning about theatre technology and museum exhibits. We built a rotating model using the SPIKE app then sent a code to our model to make it move. We explored changing the programme to make the model go faster or slower and change direction. We also created a model with a light sensor and adapted our models to create a scene for a theatre stage or exhibit. We have learnt so much already!

STEAM Week Year 1

The children were so excited to start our STEAM week. We talked about this year’s theme of the Arts and how we can showcase our hobbies. The children enjoyed building a stage and were challenged  to think about how to make a music concert enjoyable. They did a fantastic job and worked so well in teams.

This week Reception are taking part in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) week.  Today, we have been using Lego to complete ‘6 Brick Challenges’ and  build objects to show our hobbies and interests.   We then designed and built our own music concert.  We have had so much fun!!!!
