Year 2 are loving their PE lessons this half term! We are lucky to have coaching from Tom, our gymnastics expert! We have been star gymnasts – practising forward rolls, back supports and bridges. We are starting to put these into a routine.
We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Platinum Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year. This is the highest award that the School Games Mark issues.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
We had such a fun morning in year 1. We all took part in Harton’s Sports Day!

Year 1 have been enjoying their Rugby skills sessions for PE with Jake.
We began our session with a game of stick in the mud. Today we played a game of tag bulldog using the tag belts.
We are really enjoying learning these new skills.
This week in Geography we have been exploring maps. Today we used ‘Google Earth’ to look at various locations. We also looked at our school and classroom. We were set a challenge to find the treasure located somewhere outdoors. We worked in groups and used our navigation, spatial awareness and orientation skills to read a map. We also had excellent teamwork skills whilst searching for the treasure.
Some of our year 1 pupils had the opportunity to take part in the O.A.A. Festival at South Marine park. The children had lots of fun orienteering, finding the markers and finally making a house for a bear from the materials they collected.
They put their map reading skills to the test and looked high and low for each marker. The children all worked fantastically as a team and had an amazing afternoon!
Yesterday children from our Year 6 attended a cricket festival at Whitburn Cricket Club. The children played Countdown Cricket and really enjoyed themselves. Well done to all involved!
Year 1 love our PE sessions with Pip from Mini Movers. Each week we work on our fundamental skills. This week was pirate week!
This week 30 children from year 2 got to visit Temple Park for a football event.
There was lots of different challenges which tested our goal shooting techniques, match skills and we even got to do some dancing!
The children had lots of fun whilst staying active and the sun was shining all afternoon!
Today we were visited by Andrew from Durham CC. He talked to the children about exciting cricket opportunities in our local area and launched both All Stars Cricket for children in Reception to Year 3 and Dynamos Cricket for children in Years 4 to 6. Unfortunately the weather prevented the children from playing cricket today so that will be rearranged for later on in the summer term.
