Keeping Safe Evidence
Kerry from Operation Encompass visited Year 4 yesterday, to teach pupils about healthy friendships and relationships through discussing ground rules, keeping safe, contract of behaviour, and confidentiality.
Pupils had great ideas about the qualities that they thought a good friend should have.
Some of them said, ‘I enjoyed that she was really friendly and taught us how to be a good friend’, and ‘I learnt that you need to be kind to others because it’s not fair to be mean’.
Y3W have been participating in Black History Week and have been reading Little People, Big Dreams – Rosa Parks.
On non-uniform day when we supported Children In Need and Show Racism the Red Card, pupils discussed how racism is never acceptable and wrote statements on red and green ‘referee’ cards.

Miss Samuel’s class brought donations in for Children in Need, and enjoyed celebrating the day. Our Cook made a delicious Pudsey Bear biscuit for all pupils too. Some pupils also wore something red to support Show Racism the Red Card, then wrote positive statements about being ‘upstanders’, and not ‘bystanders’ to bullying.
As part of our Black History Week, pupils discussed equality and diversity for all. Show Racism the Red Card is a charity that we support as they do fabulous work promoting fairness and equality.
Miss Johnson’s Class wrote some positive statements onto red and green cards to create a thought provoking display which reminds us all why anti-bullying work is so important.
Kerry returned to Year 3 today to deliver an Operation Encompass unit called Friendships and Relationships. Pupils were very involved and made some excellent contributions. This unit links well with our PSHE/RSE lessons, and helps pupils to appreciate the importance of asking for help or advice where necessary, and how to keep safe.

Wednesday 28th October – Let’s Talk About Black History
October is Black History Month, and to honour this occasion… Let’s Talk About Black History! Black History Month is an opportunity to celebrate and truly appreciate diversity in the UK, as well as learning more about the rich history, culture, struggle and achievements of the black community. In this live forum, we’ll be looking at famous black role models, the history of black communities in the UK, and why it’s so important for us to celebrate Black History Month. Come along and join the chat, everyone is welcome!
This year’s theme is kindness.
As you may not have seen some of your friends or family members for a while, let’s try spreading a little joy and happiness to make them smile. Here are some suggestions:
Being kind to family and friends.
Ask your parent or carer if you can make a telephone call to your friend or family member, with a kind or uplifting message.
Make a Things to Look Forward To With You Jar. Recycle an old jam jar or similar. Decorate it with beads, stickers or pictures if you wish. Every day, write a note to put into the jar. The note will be about something you will try to do when you are able to see your family or friend again. For example, To have a picnic, or To play a game together.

Make a card or poster for your friend or family member. Take a photograph of it to send on to them, or put it somewhere that they can see it.
Take part in a video quiz with your parents or carer, to connect with friends or family.

The Year 1 children have been working hard at home and keeping busy with some brilliant, creative activities. It’s wonderful to see the children’s happy faces and all of the fun they have been having!

Mrs Bushby delivers weekly Kidsafe lessons from the Kidsafe programme to our Year 3 and Year 4 pupils. They learn about feelings, keeping safe on computers, how to keep our bodies safe, and talking to trusted adults.
At Harton we have enjoyed using art and craft activities to maintain everyone’s smiles. If you are passing our school look out for the fantastic rainbows around the building and on the windows. We hope everyone is staying safe and well. x
