Kabaddi

This term ,Year 4 has been learning to play Kabaddi.  The children have learnt the rules of the game, the importance of counting Kabaddi’s and tactics for the game.  The children have really enjoyed the game.
The children have also created their own version of human rock, paper and scissors which they play as a warm up.

School Team Football

This week the Harton school team played games against St Peter’s and Paul’s and St Gregory’s.
In the first game the team fell behind early but fought back through an own goal to go in at half time level.  In the second half a goal each for Ollie and Daniel put the team 3-1 up but  St Peter’s and Paul’s pulled it back to 3-2 and in the last minute a lucky deflection meant they were able to pull it back to 3-3.
In the second game the team again went behind early but a goal by Alfie meant the scores were level at half time.  A wonder strike from Daniel put us ahead and only a good save prevented us from going further ahead.  St Gregory’s made it 2-2 near the end and Oscar pulled off a last minute save to keep the scores level.
Two really good games of football played in a really good spirit.

iBelong Cyber Event

5 children from Year 6 were selected to take part in the iBelong Cyber event at the Word to take part in some workshops around e-Safety.

In our first session, we worked with Alan from the DSIT (Department of Science, Innovation and Technology) looking at trust when online. We discussed different people (like doctors or teachers) and why we trust them, and how we trust information from different sources. Looking at AI and machine based learning, we learned about data sets through the game ‘Quick Draw‘ and how computers learn from lots of pieces of similar data. He also learned about key signs to look for with regards to phishing (scamming emails, texts, calls and websites wanting to steal details/information) situations.

Our next session was about ‘Digital Footprints from a Gaming View’ – the marks we leave online – from Digital Safety. We looked at ‘gamertags’, as this is the first thing people see when we engage online. We learned that it is important that these are anonymous and hide our personal information. We then took part in a ‘password cracker’ activity – trying to guess someone’s password. Next we tried to create a new stronger password for the character.

After lunch, we had our final session about ‘Staying safe on Roblox’. We looked into cybersecurity, and how we keep ourselves safe online. Again (similar to the last session) we looked at the importance of secure passwords and what we should be sharing online. Discussing scenarios, we looked at what to do when people contact you unsolicited or offering ‘too good to be true’ situations – highlighting the reject and report buttons.

 

We ended the day looking at impersonation and identity theft, thinking about how we’d feel if someone had been impersonating us online. Using Mentimeter, we took part in polls to assess our understanding of the themes of today.

Overall, the children were given a refresh of how they can make themselves more safe when setting up accounts or navigating the online world.

Arbor Parent App

10th September 2025Kathryn Smith
On the 1st September we moved our school management information system to Arbor. We have spent the first week of term familiarising ourselves with the opportunities and challenges that any new system brings. We apologise for the delay and the technical issues that have followed this change. We hope our new system will allow us to communicate with you more efficiently.
Going forward we will be using e-mail and in-app messages to communicate with yourselves, this will replace the Marvellous Me app. The new Arbor app will allow you to receive messages from school, see your child’s attainment and attendance results as well as log your child’s absences.
You will receive an e-mail regarding how to download the Arbor App and register for the Parent Portal in the next few days. Please look out for this information and register your child when prompted (this may go to your junk mail).
