Art Workshops With Zoe Emma Scott

By Ms A Emmerson27th June 2017

The whole school have participated in Art workshops with local artist Zoe Emma Scott.

Zoe inspired the children by sharing pieces of her artwork and explaining ways in which they can make their work their own.

All children were set the challenge to illustrate their idea of a happy day. The artwork the children produced throughout the school was fantastic!

After much deliberation Zoe chose some final pieces to receive an art award and one lucky person had their art work printed! The children who received the art awards are as follows:

Nursery-Darcie D

Reception-Lexie H

Year 1-Maizie R

Year 2-Lily D

Year 3-Andrew A

Year 4-Maisie S

Year 5-Daniel R

Year 6-Kaitlyn E

Could you be a Buddy?

By eclark23rd June 2017

Excited by the delivery of our Buddy Bus Stops, School Council members met to discuss how these might best be used to help children feeling lonely in the yard. Council members explained that it will be important to have thoughtful children playing close to the bus stops if those feeling lost are to receive the help that they need. Could you be one of these helpful children, or Buddies, that the School Council are looking for?

Making a difference in school and out!

By eclark23rd June 2017

Members of the School Council have been busy working their magic again. Not content with making a huge difference to their local community, the children have turned their attention to how they might be able to help fellow pupils within school.

Members of the School Council explained in their recent meeting that the yard can, at times, be a lonely place for some children. It is not always easy to find someone to play with, especially when close friends are absent or are eating lunch. After a lengthy discussion of possible ways around this issue, the School Council decided upon installing a ‘Buddy Bus Stop’ in each yard. Children who are feeling lost and in need of a friend can come to one of the Bus Stops to receive the help that they need.

Year 6 Hoops4Health tournament at Sports Central

By L Forster20th June 2017

On Friday the 16th of June, Year 6 “made history” according to Newcastle Eagles coach Graham Heath, as they brought all the school in the North East together to compete against each other in the year 6 Hoops4Health tournament. Our team of 7 took on 36 other schools from North Tyneside, Newcastle, Gateshead and South Tyneside in an all day tournament.

We took on the 5 other teams of group C, only finding defeat by one basket against St. Bede’s with a score of 4-2 and coming second in our group.

However, all was not lost. Being one of the 2 most successful runners up, along with Cleadon CoE, we got through to the quarter finals. Only to be beaten, again 4-2.

They day ended with meeting Newcastle Eagle number 13, Darius Defoe (when free from autographs) and our own Eleanor Dolan being scouted for the Newcastle Eagles U12 girls team, of only 20 girls being picked from the day.

It was a tough day, but fun. Now our year 5s have a lot of work to do for next years event!

Canny addition in Y3R brings the total to 1013!

By eclark6th April 2017

Y3R have been busy putting their column addition skills to use this week. Led by School Council member Sadie, the children collected all of the cans received as part of ‘Canny Friday’. Having counted the cans collected from each class, the children then worked together to find the total using column addition. They found that, last week, we managed to collect 234 cans for the South Tyneside Food Bank, bringing our total to an amazing 1013!

The children also used their knowledge of previous weeks to estimate the number of cans and dried foods that they expected to receive as part of our final ‘Canny Friday’ this week. They were excited to explain their reasoning. What would your estimate be?

Canny Friday’s on target!

By admin31st March 2017

The total number of canned and dried foods donated for the South Tyneside Food Bank (as part of ‘Canny Friday’) currently stands at an amazing 776. I wonder if we’ll beat our target (of 1000 cans) early? 2 weeks to go!

By admin29th March 2017

The School Council were pleased to show off their ‘Canny Friday’ efforts last week when the Shields Gazette visited the school especially to see their display. The children talked confidently about the project and the donations received so far. They cannot wait to give them to the South Tyneside Food Bank!

Canny donations all around!

By admin29th March 2017

In addition to counting the total number of cans received for each Canny Friday, our School Council members have also been busy recording the total number of donations received from each year group. School Council member Keira suggested this at our last meeting and the other children agreed that this would be an interesting idea. Year 3 are even going to analyse some of this data in their maths lessons next half term!

Last week, the Year 4 children helped to collect and count the cans. Thank you to everyone for your generous donations. A particular thanks go to the children of Y3R, who managed 33 cans, and to Nursery and Reception. In total, the children and parents from our Foundation Stage donated 46 cans for the South Tyneside Food Bank.
