This half term Y6 have been developing their sketching skills and creating self portraits. We have worked on shading and blending and spent time drawing and practising our different facial features and expressions in our sketch books before creating our final self portrait.
We are so proud of our ‘Readers of the Month’ for September. The children have been chosen for their amazing efforts with reading at home and in school since starting in their new year groups.

‘Words empower children to make sense of the world around them”
We recognise the importance of widening our children’s vocabulary.
Every day our children are given a “Word of the day” from Vocabulary Ninja.
Children read the word, the definition and they are given the opportunity to apply it to a sentence.
Have a look at this week’s words:
Grasshopper words (Key Stage 1)
Shinobi words (Key Stage 2)

We are reading Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo in Year 6 in English this half term. This is a story all about all about a boy named Michael who is washed up on an island in the Pacific and struggles to survive. He can’t find food and water but then he finds he is not alone on the island.
To support our reading and writing around the text we took part in a Wilderness Outdoor Education workshop which linked to the text and discussed what we need to survive, we learned about fire lighting techniques and most of us (the brave ones) managed some bug tasting!
Congratulations to Harry Johnston (Y6W) and Theo Roberts (Y6D) who have read over one million words on Accelerated Reader and become our latest Word Millionaires.
We are so proud of all of our millionaires this year and we have had the highest number of Word Millionaires this year than we ever had before.

We were very excited to take part in South Tyneside’s Climate Change Week of Action last month. Children in the school started to explore positive changes we can make to reduce pollution, habitat loss and carbon emissions. Some of the children also explored renewable energy sources which help the environment. Other children made pledges to help the environment and some helped to make eco-bricks!
Good morning everyone. Hope you all managed to have a lovely weekend.
