International Mascot Mayhem!

Year 4 have been awarded Toffee the Attendance Award bear two weeks in a row now!

Y4S and Y4R have loved having Toffee’s new pals in their classroom as well – Baba yaga from Poland, and Norton the turkey…from Turkey! In assembly, Miss Chipchase read the whole school a traditional tale about Baba yaga the witch, from Polish and Russian folklore.

We’re going to try to learn a little bit of Polish and Turkish so we can greet the whole school in another language. Hopefully, we won’t forget what to say when we link by Skype, with a  school in Turkey!

A Taste of an African Market.

Today, Year 4 took a trip to Africa and visited the very busy African market. This term, we have been looking at stories from a different culture including Gregory Cool and Grace and Family (which we have just started today).  In the story, Grace visits a traditional African market, which the children had the chance to experience today.

They looked at photos and videos of an African market, they tried fruit juices including: apple, mango, orange, orange and mango and a tropical punch. They also looked at a range of spices discussing the bright vibrant colours and the unusual smells that filled the market. The children also got the chance to try a range of African foods including: Mango, pineapple, sweet potatoes, spicy rice, plain rice, couscous, green and red peppers, pomegranate, and salsa.

The children will be using their experience from today to write a description of the market using the writing devices we have been looking this term!

The Big Sing!

After weeks of rehearsals and much practise, Y4S finally took to the stage as  part in the Big Sing hosted at the Sage Gateshead. The children weren’t brilliant they were FANTASTIC! Everyone sang their hearts out and did our school proud.

Well done Y4S. You were outstanding! We hope you enjoy our photos and videos.




Bewitching performances

Year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed reading Roald Dahl’s book ‘The Witches’. We even read the playscript version and practiced reading with actions, expression and intonation. The children were then inspired to convert an extract from the story into a scene of the play. They used interesting lines of dialogue as well as detailed stage directions. Here are a small selection of some of the performances.


Speaking and Listening…in French!

Y4R create Puppet Pals on the Ipads from Julie Hogg on Vimeo.

 

 

Y4R have been using an app on the ipads called Puppet Pals, in order to help them practice their French Speaking and Listening. Working in pairs, the children rehearsed their parts, integrating new vocabulary with sentence structures they were already familiar with. Their pronunciations are magnifique!

For ‘World Christmas Day’ all of year 4 took a trip to France for the day. The children engaged in a range of activities including writing a letter in French, learning French songs, researching information about France using the internet, making calendars in the style of a French painter and most importantly they got to taste traditional French food.

Les Animaux

We learnt about how to write sentences about animals in French. The children took care with their spellings and punctuation, just like they do in their writing in English.
