Time Travelling Year 4s

Y4C enjoyed travelling back in time at Jarrow Hall on Thursday to learn more about the Anglo-Saxons, this half term’s history topic. After changing into historical dress, the children were transported to an Anglo-Saxon village where they explored traditional housing and listened to riddles being told around an open fire. After lunch, they worked as a group to collect the ingredients for an Anglo-Saxon medicine before recreating a historic battle. Thanks again to all of the parents who helped out, a fantastic day was had by all.

 

500, 000 word readers!

Y4C have thrown themselves into reading this half term and have, as a class, managed to read a whopping 500, 000 words! The children now take their Accelerated Reader books home each day and enjoy taking quizzes that are designed to further their understanding. The class are already looking forward to becoming word millionaires and are making their predictions as to when they might reach this milestone. Keep up the fantastic work Y4C!

Boys Football

It has been a really busy couple of weeks for the boys football teams with our school taking part in 3 different divisions.

In the Wednesday Mortimer League the boys got off to a mixed start with us out playing Monkton and somehow getting beat 3-2. In the second game a backs to the wall dsiplay by the boys saw them beat Ashley 1 nil.

In the Thursday Temple Park League the boys got off to a flying start beating Whitburn Village 5-1 and in the second game they beat Marsden 5-2. This was under the coaching guidance of Miss Smith.

In the the Thursday Biddick Hall League the boys have now completed their season. They defeated every team they played at least once and going into the final game of the season against St Gregorys R.C. the boys knew that win would win them the league. A real team performance saw the boys gradually get themselves on top and a fantastic goal from Josh put them 1 up before half time. In the second half the boys pounced on the counter attack and Logan followed up on his own good work to score the goal that won the title. Massive well done to the boys, who as always, were a pleasure to coach.

Archaeosoup Visit Year 4

History Week got off to great start in Year 4 with a workshop by Archaeosoup. The children explored all aspects of Anglo-Saxon life with Mark, an archaeologist. They particularly enjoyed dressing up in Anglo-Saxon inspired clothing, playing instruments and retelling the story of Beowulf.

Whole School Elmer Project

Thank you to all of our parents/guardians for the contributions during our Elmer Project Day. We raised over £400 for St. Oswalds Hospice.

We are so excited for Elmer’s Great North Parade and cannot wait to see our Harton Primary School elephant on the trail. During our project day the children put forward their own design ideas and they were amazing. We cannot wait to share them with you.

 

Proud to be Me!

Our Elmer sculpture is complete! It has been collected and is off to join the herd. Look out for our Harton Primary School sculpture, called ‘Proud to be me!’ during the summer holidays. The trail will begin in August. A huge thank you to every child that completed an Elmer design! The children have spent so long painting the sculpture and making sure it looked it’s very best before leaving our school. It looks AMAZING!

Stop-Motion Club – Lego Building Lego

In our second week of Stop-Motion club, we made videos of Lego models, but with a twist. These model looked like they were building themselves – which was quite difficult.

Some of the children experimented with these videos, using their hands to cover or make models disappear.
