Y3 have enjoyed visiting the allotment over the past few weeks to check on our various plants, fruits and vegetables. We have been popping in each day to care for our plants to ensure they are getting everything they need to grow. We were so excited when Mrs Robson told us some of our vegetables were ready to pull and try! We particularly enjoyed the radishes, spinach, carrots and strawberries
A huge congratulations to Jay Collins (Y6D) and Joe Roberts (Y6F) for their amazing achievement of reading over one million words on Accelerated Reader. They have been awarded with a trophy engraved with their names and a book of their choice as a prize. Well done Jay and Joe!
We had our first sports visitor of the year last week when Michael from Durham C.C. came in to work with children in Years 1-4. All the children had a fantastic time learning new skills.
Year 3 have been thoroughly enjoying our drumming music lessons with Mr Winter. We have learnt lots of different types of beats including base, tone, snap and a ghost note. We have worked extremely well in our drumming groups and together we have been able to put together a sequence of different beats. It sounds fabulous! Keep up the great work Year 3!
Y3S achieved 10 weeks of amazing attendance (97% or above)! Miss Samuels is so proud of us all for coming to school every day. As a result of this, we earned a full Friday afternoon treat of our own choice. It was tricky but in the end we decided to enjoy a movie with treats. We had a class vote and chose to watch The Secret Life of Pets 2. We ate popcorn and drank juice whilst snuggling our favourite cuddly toys (even some of us had our cosy slippers and socks on!) Well done Y3S for achieving fantastic attendance.
This week Y3 enjoyed a drama workshop with One Day Create all about Volcanoes and Earthquakes!
We explored the key aspects of the physical geography of volcanoes and earthquakes and examined current natural disasters and significant historical incidents though quizzes and being intrigued by Hattie’s descriptions of different earthquakes and volcanoes around the world. We acted out and discussed what life would be like if natural disaster occurred in our area and expressed our ideas and feelings through voice, movement, role play and drama!
Our new display boards in the Community Room have been populated with the work of our hardworking pupils.
Children in Y3W took a trip to the allotment on Friday to replant some cabbages. We have been learning lots about plants in our Science lessons, including what they need to grow. We are ready to water them regularly and watch them flourish!
This week Y3 looked at the different layers of the Earth. We model made our own Earth to show all of the layers. We then compared the layers of the Earth to a peach. We looked at the inside of a peach and imagined the peach’s stone was the Earth’s core, the surrounding soft bit of the peach is like the Earth’s mantle filled with magna and finally the skin is like the Earth’s crust. We then labelled all of the layers of the Earth it was super interesting!
Y3W were one of the first classes to achieve 10 weeks of excellent attendance (97% or above). Well done! Miss Whitehead is so proud of us all. We earned a full afternoon treat of our own choice. We had many ideas but we finally decided to enjoy the sunshine with a picnic outside.
We played many fun games, swung on the trim trail and our favourite part of all was playing with the parachute. We were so lucky that the sun was shining. After all this excitement we sat down together to enjoy a delicious picnic.
We had so much fun celebrating our amazing achievement!
