‘Words empower children to make sense of the world around them”
We recognise the importance of widening our children’s vocabulary.
Every day our children are given a “Word of the day” from Vocabulary Ninja.
Children read the word, the definition and they are given the opportunity to apply it to a sentence.

Y3 had a special visit from Julian, who is a crêpe maker from France, this week. We all ordered our crêpes in French and choose what delicious toppings we wanted too! We even learnt how to use our manners when speaking French.

This week Y3 were set a DT project linked to our Geography topic ‘The Rainforest’ We really enjoyed designing and then model making our own rainforests- we even included each different layer!
Take a look at our models!
South Tyneside Libraries will be delivering this year’s Summer Reading Challenge from the council’s multi-service ‘hubs’ (The Word, Cleadon Park, Hebburn Central and Jarrow Focus) and the volunteer run library Boldon and Cleadon Community Library and Perth Green Community Library located with Perth Green Community Association.
The theme for this year’s challenge is ‘Wild World Heroes’, a nature-themed challenge created in partnership with WWF that will inspire you to stand up for the planet.
The challenge starts tomorrow (Saturday 10th July) and runs up until Saturday 25th September.

This week Year 3 visited our allotment- it was lovely to see all the fruit and vegetables that we have planted finally grow. We helped pick out the lettuce, cabbage, strawberries, radishes, carrots and onions! We then returned to class to try out all of the tummy vegetables- we thoroughly enjoyed our tasting session and our favourite vegetable was the radishes. We can’t wait to return!
Y3 enjoyed a trek through the rainforest virtually with Oliver using VR headsets! WE could not believe how realistic it was and what we actually came across! We found many animal species, plants and trees. We then moved onto looking at the effects of deforestation on rainforests around the globe – it was amazing!
Y3 have enjoyed crêpes au petit déjeuner this morning as a tasty treat to end our busy week! We were all able to order our crêpes in French and choose what tasty toppings we wanted too! Madame Smith will be super impressed with our French accents!
Over the past few weeks Y3 have very sensibly been learning our Green Cross Code and how to cross the road safely. We are really enjoying our sessions with Tracey and the team learning lots of safety precautions each week.
