This week in Year 1 we have been writing our own poems all about fireworks. The children have spoken confidently about the sounds fireworks make and shared their experiences of watching fireworks with their families this week.
After writing our poems we worked hard to read them aloud, thinking carefully about how to use volume and expression to entertain the listeners. We even added actions!
Have a look at our performances on our school Facebook page! We hope you enjoy them.
Next week is Anti-Bullying week 10th – 14th November.
Monday the 10th November is Odd Sock Day, children are welcome to come to school in ‘Odd Socks’ to celebrate individuality and to promote anti-bullying awareness.
Friday the 14th November we will be fundraising for Children in Need. Children can come to school in non-uniform with a voluntary donation of £1.
The children in Y1M have had a very busy time so far this year.
We have enjoyed lots of lovely things and learned so much already. Some of our highlights have been our visit from Stef (Animal Antics) and her Owls Jessie and Bracken, we loved our forest school sessions and have had a super time in Music, learning how to play keys on instruments.
Have a look at our learning in action! We can’t wait to see what we get up to this term.
Congratulations to our Reader’s of the Month for October.
These children have been chosen by their teachers for their outstanding work with all things Reading!
Key stage 2 pupils have been recognized for their efforts to read at home more and improve their engaged reading time using AR.
In Key Stage 1, pupils have been trying hard to sound out words using their decoding skills and teachers have been amazed with progress in Phonics lessons.
Well done everyone! We hope you enjoy reading your new books at home! Keep it up.

Year 1 had a special visit from some beautiful Owls yesterday. This visit was to link with our English topic of Owls. The children have been exploring a range of Non-Fiction and Fiction texts all about Owls.
Our topic in Geography this half term is ‘Our School and Locality’. We have been exploring the features of our school and local area and have even learned some simple directions!
First we used a compass to find North, East, South and West. Then we used these directions to give our partners instructions to find treasure hidden in the yard. We had to take photos of what we found and had so much fun!
Finally we were challenged us to use maps of our school to find objects hidden in the grounds. We had a great time exploring!
What a lovely start to year 1 with a visit from Nadia from Tranquil Treehouse. For the last three weeks, the children have looked at a range of breathing exercises that can help them daily. The four breathing techniques that the children have been focusing on are: Bunny Breath for energy, Dragon Breath for mental strength, Flower Breath for breath awareness and Tummy Breath for calming. Year 1 have really enjoyed these sessions and our aim is to use these techniques to help us.

In our Design Technology topic this half term we have been looking at structures all over the world from The Angel of the North, The Eifel Tower to the Statue of Liberty.
We thought about the types of structure they were and what we thought they might have been built from.
As we have been learning about Grace Darling, we thought a Lighthouse would be a good structure to explore.
We thought very carefully about the materials we could use, the different methods to decorate the main structure, such as paper using crayons, pens and pencils, a collage of different materials.
We have also thought about challenges we might face.
We think they look amazing!
