In preparation for learning French in Year 3, Year 2 had a special French visitor. Julien told us all about French culture then we ordered our crepe with our choice of delicious toppings in French. Most importantly, we remembered to say please and thank you (or should we say S’il Vous Plait et Merci!).
Once again we got the chance to celebrate all the fantastic reading achievements at our school. This month staff were asked to look out for readers who ‘set a good example’ and found it extremely hard to choose just one fantastic pupil from each class!
The children chosen this month have impressed us with their effort, performance and progress in reading.

Y2M were one of the lucky winners of a competition to design a milkshake, with Holly T creating a fantastic design. As our prize, we go to visit Embleton Hall Dairy Farm to find out how milk gets from the cow to the cartons we drink every day in school. We had a session with Animal Encounters, a tour of the farm’s fields and cow sheds to complete an activity trail, saw the milking robots milking cows, visited the nursery to see the calves and visited the dairy’s production plant to see the milk getting put into cartons! We had such an amazing day and learnt so much.
This week in Geography we have been exploring maps. Today we used ‘Google Earth’ to look at various locations. We also looked at our school and classroom. We were set a challenge to find the treasure located somewhere outdoors. We worked in groups and used our navigation, spatial awareness and orientation skills to read a map. We also had excellent teamwork skills whilst searching for the treasure.
We are learning about The Great Fire of London which is a significant event in history. Today, we were history detectives and looked at different historical sources to find clues about the fire. We used paintings, sketches, maps and diary entries from the time to find out where, when and how the fire started and then wrote a summary of what we had discovered. We did a great job and found out lots about this key event from the past.

On Friday Year 2 had a special visit from Tumbles, Grumbles and their friend Caroline from Little Rescuers.
We showed off everything we have learned so far in school including what to do in an emergency, how to contact Emergency services and how to treat injuries.
Well done Year 2, you are amazing little rescuers!

Today we looked at the different layers of the Earth. We model made our own Earth to show all of the layers. We first made the inner core which we now know is the hottest layer of the earth reaching over 5000 degrees C! We used play dough to then layer the outer core, mantle, and earth’s crust before adding on earth and water. We then compared the layers of the Earth to a peach. We looked at the inside of a peach and imagined the peach’s stone was the Earth’s core, the surrounding soft bit of the peach is like the Earth’s mantle filled with Magna and finally the skin is like the Earth’s crust.
Rob from Zoo Lab came to Nursery and he brought some special visitors with him. He told us lots of facts about them and we got to hold every one. Look how brave we were! Which one is your favourite?
Yesterday in Year 2, we looked at things that Christians use to celebrate Easter and how those items link to the Easter story. We looked at items like the communion chalice, crucifixes and crosses, and then we tasted ‘The Lord’s Supper’, some hot cross buns and mini-Easter eggs.
