Pupils from Year-6 were selected to represent the school in a gymnastics competition at Temple Park. After a warm-up and practise, the children performed their routine to the judges. Later, they had the opportunity to try some new skills on the trampolines and gymnastics equipment. Two of the three teams went on to claim first and second place and will now progress to the next level of the competition. All of the children performed superbly and were commended by Temple Park Staff for their excellent behaviour throughout the morning. They were a credit to the school and should be very proud of themselves.
Thursday saw the end of the girls football season. The season is split into 2 stages with fixtures earlier in the year dictating the second half of the season. In the early part of the season Team A won their group and went forward to the champions league and the Team B went into the championship. In the second half of the season the girls continued to develop their football skills and understanding of the game and both teams finished 4th in their groups. A massive well done to all the girls and its really good to see several have moved onto playing for local teams.
On Wednesday 3 teams of Year 6 children entered the South Tyneside gymnastics tournament. A fantastic effort from our children saw two of our teams finishing 1st and 2nd, whilst the 3rd team narrowly missing out on 3rd place. Well done to all the children who took part.
Following the success of our school Boccia teams in the South Tyneside finals, 6 children from our school were asked to represent South Tyneside in the county finals against schools from across all of Tyne and Wear. The children performed excellently and one team finished 5th and the other 8th.

On Thursday the boys football team completed their league season. Going into the final round of fixtures the boys were in second place 6 points behind leaders Westoe with a game in hand.
In the first round of fixtures the boys beat Laygate 4 nil, with goals for Leighton, Taylor, Harry and Bailey, whilst Westoe beat Mortimer 1 nil. This meant that with just two games to go the boys were still 6 points behind and our next game was against league leaders Westoe.
In a really tight and exciting game the boys defended really well and played on the counter attack. They were rewarded when Taylor scored just before half time. In the second half Harry caught Westoe again on the counter attack to put the boys 2 up. Westoe threw everything they could at the boys for the remainder of the match but a wonder save by Corey kept them out meaning the game ended 2-0 to Harton.
Going into the final game the boys knew that a victory would give them the league title and they quickly raced into a 4 nil lead in the first half, goals for Harry, Josh and 2 for Bailey. Excellent goal keeping in the second half prevented the boys adding to their score but it didnt matter, they were the CHAMPIONS!
A superb team performance in all three games with Charlie, Jayden and Rome all playing a big part in the title victory. Well done lads.
On Friday a group of Year 3 and 4 boys took part in the first ever South Tyneside football festival for children of their age. The boys were placed in a group with 6 other schools and only the top 2 would go on to the next round. In the First game against East Boldon the boys won 2-0 with Jack R and Jack D scoring the goals. In game 2 the boys beat St Aloysius B 5-0 with goal for jack D, Jack R and 3 for Logan. In game 3 the boys beat Mortimer B 3-0 with goals for Mason, Jack R and Logan. In the fourth game the boys beat Lord Blyton 2-0 with goals for Theo and Jack D. In game 5 we beat St Bede 1-0 with a goal for Theo and in the final game they beat St Joseph 4-0 with Max, Theo, Jack D and Mason getting the goals. This meant the boys had topped the group and were into the semi finals.
In the semi final against St Aloysius A the boys played very well but were unable to score a goal in normal time or extra time so we went to a penalty shoot out. Max, Mason and Logan all converted their penalties and St Aloysius missed one of theirs meaning the lads were in the final.
In the final they played Lord Blyton who they had already defeated in the group stage. Once again they were unable to score, despite hitting the bar and having a header cleared off the line, so it was down to penalties. This time the all the penaties in the shoot out were missed with Daniel twice saving Lord Blyton penalties. Jack D then stepped up to take a penalty in sudden death and he scored the winner.
The boys can all be very proud of themselves for the football they played and their sportsmanship.

On Thursday 3 teams took part in the South Tyneside Boccia tournament. All 3 teams won their individual groups and progressed to the semi finals. Unfortunately 2 of the teams, Harton A and Harton C, met each other in the semi final and only one could progress. In the other semi final Harton B beat Hadrian. This meant that Harton A played Harton B in the final with Harton B running out the winners. The children will now progress to the county finals.
A big congratulations to our Year 2 gymnastics team for placing 1st and 2nd in the South Tyneside schools competition.
