Nursery and Reception classes were treated to Teamwork and Friendship workshops by Jessica from Dance City on Wednesday. The children were having a super time finding out similarities and differences between them, and worked as a team to help other groups decide what they were posing as.
There was a party-like atmosphere at the annual FAB Awards in Jarrow Focus theatre on Wednesday. It was the 10th anniversary of the awards, and everyone had a ‘fab’ time!.
Harton’s Super Safety Squad helped to present the awards, and a Y6 School Council member and one of our Y6 Playground Buddies showed the guests our Anti-Bullying work. Harton Primary School had 2 entries – one for the Role Model Award, and one for the Main Award.
Our pupils were incredibly eloquent, and as usual, excellent role models. We were delighted with our certificates and awards, and parents came along to share the occasion.
As part of our Anti-Bullying Week, the theme for this year’s Odd Socks Day was ‘Change Starts with Us’. We had a special Anti-Bullying assembly and looked at each others unique Odd Socks class photographs. We are busy fundraising for the Anti-Bullying Alliance by selling wristbands this week. It’s an excellent cause!
There’s lots more to come this week to raise awareness of bullying and building self-esteem.
Our Year 6 Playground Buddies are looking forward to helping others at break times. If anyone is feeling lonely, or would like to talk to a friendly face, they can go to one of the three buddy benches where the Buddies can be found.
All of our pupils designed some amazing odd socks of their own. This helps to reinforce the Anti-Bullying Alliance message of ‘Choosing respect’ and ‘Being unique.’ Here are our competition winners:
Class Y1R performed their Class Celebration Assembly to parents, then the whole school, on Children in Need Day. It was a great way to end Anti-bullying Week 2017.
As part of Anti-Bullying Week, Kalma Juniors visited some of our Year 1 pupils after school to take part in a yoga session. The children experienced sequences of yoga postures, breathing and mindfulness for them to use in everyday life situations.
Well done everyone! We were proud to receive recognition for all the great work our children and staff do towards anti-bullying, and the contributions they make in helping to create a safe school environment.
