Nursery Home Learning 5.7.21

5th July 2021Ms A Emmerson

Look at your fantastic work! Nursery you really impressed us on Friday. Your boats looked amazing AND lots of you worked super hard changing your plan until they were able to float.

Today is our last day learning from home. We cannot wait to welcome you all back to Nursery tomorrow!

Since it is our last day, todays activities are all pirate themed! I know lots of you were very excited for our live pirate session this morning. ARGGGHHH!

Todays activities are:

Literacy

Pirate’s love sending special messages in bottles. Can you write a very special message to your new Reception teacher, roll it up, put it in a bottle and bring it to school tomorrow. We will quarantine your messages and then deliver them to your new teacher later on this week. You might want to tell your new teacher a little bit about yourself. What are you interested in? Which areas do you love to learn in at Nursery? You could even draw them a picture to show them what you like to do. You could also ask them a question if there is something you would like to find out about Reception.

If your child is staying in Nursery in September, they may want to write a message to Mrs Moore who is joining the Nursery team!

Maths

Oh no, the treasure is hidden! I think your adult has been sneaky and has hidden treasure around your house. Ask them to show you a ten town card to tell you how many pieces of treasure they have hidden. Can you recognise the number, find all of the treasure and count it correctly?

Nursery Home Learning 2.7.21

2nd July 2021Ms A Emmerson

It’s Friday!

A huge marshmallow clap for our Nursery children this week. You have been working so hard at home and we are so proud of the achievements you have made. It is fantastic to see how happy and smiley you all are on your home learning photographs.

If you have any additional photographs you would like to send us please email them to [email protected] .

Todays home learning is:

Literacy

You’ve tested the different objects and talked about why they float and why they sink, you have designed your own boat and today it is time to make it! Don’t forget to test it by putting it in water. We would love to see your creations!

Maths

I spy! Lay 2D shapes on the floor and ask your adult to play I spy with you. They could say, “I spy with my little eye a shape with 2 short sides and 2 long sides.” Can you pick up the right shape? After, you can have a turn at describing a shape for your adult to guess.

Our hide and seek game using the set 1 sounds has been a huge hit this week! You could also play I spy with the set 1 sounds if you are looking a different game to play. Please see the video posted earlier this week to see the set 1 sounds.

Thank you to all of our families for your continued support!

Nursery

Nursery Home Learning 1.7.21

1st July 2021Ms A Emmerson

Good Morning!

What superstars you were yesterday, searching for sounds, carrying out experiments and being shape investigators! Well done Nursery.

Todays home learning is:

Literacy

Think back to the experiment you did yesterday. Which objects could float? Talk to your adult about why they float.

Today you are going to design your own boat. Think very carefully about the material you will use to make your boat. Remember you would want it to float! Can you draw your own boat? We would love to see what your ideas are!

Maths

Use 2D shapes you know. Tell your adult the name of the shapes you are using and the properties of each shape.

Arrange the shapes to make your own fish/ocean picture. Draw around the shapes and just like magic you will have a fantastic under the sea drawing!

Extension: Can you select the correct colours to colour your picture? Remember to hold your pencil correctly and stay inside the lines.

Nursery

Nursery Home Learning 30.6.21

30th June 2021Ms A Emmerson

Happy Wednesday!

We are half way through the week already!

In Nursery we have been working so hard to learn our set 1 sounds. You have all blown us away. Please follow the link below to show your adults how to say each sound. After, play a game of ‘Sound Hide and Seek’. Ask your adult to write the sounds down on a small piece of paper and hide them around the house. When you find a sound can you tell your adult what it is?

Todays home learning is:

Literacy

Yesterday you all loved finding out about objects that float and objects that sink. Today we would like you to carry out your own floating and sinking experiment. Choose objects from your house that you would like to test. Fill up the sink, bath or even a small tub with water. Which objects float and which objects sink? Why? Extension: Draw a picture of the objects that float.

Maths

Put a circle, square, rectangle and triangle into a bag. Make sure you cannot see the shapes when they are in the bag, no peeping! Ask your adult to hold a shape and describe it. Can you listen to the clues and guess which shape they are holding? After, it’s your turn to hold a shape and describe it to your adult. Can they guess which shape you are describing? Extension: Introduce a mystery shape, such as an oval or a hexagon.

Nursery

Nursery Home Learning 29.6.21

29th June 2021Ms A Emmerson

Good Morning Nursery!

What a strange day yesterday being at home rather than in Nursery. A huge well done to Archie who sent us a video of him reading CVC words and it looked like a busy day for Jensen who went sailing for the first time.

All of your teachers are looking forward to seeing you all every morning on Google Classroom at 9.30am.

This week we will be continuing our under the sea topic but looking at boats and ships. We will be focusing on floating and sinking. In Maths we will be exploring 2D shape.

Today’s home learning activities are:

Literacy

Look at floating and sinking and watch this short video. You will be able to find out what floats and what sinks.

After you have watched the video, can you tell your adults which objects could float and which objects sank? Can you explain the word floating and can you explain the word sinking?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0bc29rr/kit-pup-series-1-7-floating-and-sinking

Maths

Set up corners using a circle, triangle, square and rectangle.

Ask your adult to call a shape. Run to and stand beside the correct corner.

After it’s your turn to say the name of a shape. Ask your adult to run to the right corner. Did they find the right shape?

Extension – Instead of saying the name of the shape ask your adult to describe the shape. They might tell you it has 3 sides and 3 corners. Can you run to the right shape?

We would love to see your home learning photographs! Please share them with us via the Nursery email. It is [email protected] .

Thank you for your continued support, The Nursery Team

Let’s Crawl to the Ugly Bug Ball

28th May 2021Ms A Emmerson

We had so much fun celebrating the end of our minibeasts topic by having our very own Ugly Bug Ball! The children have worked so hard all week planning the ball themselves. They sent out invitations to their friends, made their own decorations and even their own bug headband. We practiced moving like a minibeast and the dance moves at the ball were out of this world. The slugs in buns, spider eggs, wiggly worms and caterpillar juice was a huge hit with the children!

Marvellous Minibeasts

4th May 2021Ms A Emmerson

Look at our marvellous minibeasts! The children in Nursery have explored 2D shapes and used them to create their own minibeast picture. The children talked about the shapes they selected and we looked at their properties.

Zoolab

21st April 2021Ms A Emmerson

The children had a special visit from Zoolab! They listened to a story about Speedy the Snail and found out about all of the living things the African snail came across whilst travelling. The children observed and handled the African snail, a snake, tarantula, rats and even a stick insect!
