The children were challenged to write a poem about lock down. I am sure you will agree that the children have put lots of thought into these exceptional poems and, although lock down definitely has its struggles, the children are making the most of it and looking at the positives.
We have seen some fantastic pictures that our children have drawn to enter The Ickabog Illustration Competition.
J.K. Rowling is publishing an original story, The Ickabog (the “Story”), online (https://www.theickabog.com/read-the-story) in instalments over seven weeks, and is inviting children to help her by illustrating the Story.
A new instalment of the Story and illustration themes to go with it will be revealed daily, Monday to Friday, throughout the course of the seven weeks, so do stay tuned.
34 winning illustrations will be selected to bring the serialised story to the printed page when it is published in full, which is intended for November 2020.
Entries are open, and the competition will close at 6pm BST on Friday 17th July 2020.
We love seeing children reading and enjoying a fantastic story. Our daily challenge was to see everyone doing this but in an unusual place. Which do you think is the most unusual?
Some exciting news for J.K. Rowling fans! During lockdown, J.K. Rowling – the world famous author of the Harry Potter novels – has written and is releasing a new story The Ickabog in free instalments on the website tagged in this post. https://www.theickabog.com/home/
Every day, she will be making suggestions for what you might like to draw. You can enter the official competition being run by J.K Rowling’s publishers, for the chance to have your artwork included in a printed version of the book due out later this year.
Get creative and get drawing! Please also send us some of your wonderful illustrations. We can’t wait to see them.
Please send in any work to [email protected]
Our daily challenge was to create something that would be shown in an art gallery. The children have created some wonderful masterpieces.
Hi everyone!
The 30 day Music Challenge is coming to an end…I hope you have all had fun choosing songs to suit each day.
Today is day 27 – “Listen to a song that you have listened to with your best friend”. A good choice for today might be, “You’ve got a friend in me” from the film Toy Story.

I hope you have enjoyed the challenge so far…only a few more songs to go 🙂
As you know, pets and other animals are so important to us and to our world. Here are some suggestions to help out our animal friends:
Being kind to animals
Have a kind play time with your pet. Even if it’s just 10 minutes to play, your pet should enjoy it.
Help to tidy up the area your pet sleeps in.
Create a corner for nature
A leaf pile – A leaf pile provides a place for worms, gives shelter to other creatures, and will also supply valuable compost that will naturally fertilise your garden’s soil.
Long grass and nettles – Long grassy areas will attract insects, provide shelter for animals, and give food for predators.
Logs – Logs provide an excellent hiding place for all sorts of amphibians, frogs and ground beetles.
Herbs and flowers – attracts pollinating minibeasts and birds.
A spoonful of water and sugar – a simple mixture of sugar and water will help revive an exhausted bee. Simply mix two tablespoons of white, granulated sugar with one tablespoon of water, and leave some on a spoon.
Bird feeder – recycle a plastic bottle.
The children in Year 4 have been continuing to work extremely hard. From creating different pieces of fabulous art work and informative posters, to carrying out further research into Ancient Egypt, to thinking like scientists – it has been wonderful to see.
Since the theme of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is kindness, we asked the children to ‘fill someone’s bucket’. This was inspired by the wonderful book by Carol McCloud. The children found different ways to show their love and appreciation for family, friends and teachers. We hope it fills your bucket when you look at the pictures and messages.
