Today we started by learning about energy consumption. We built a carousel and then connected it our energy storage model that we made yesterday. We realeased the stored energy and powered the carousel. Next, we made a model and used the SPIKE app to send code to our model to make it move. We then explored changing the programme to make the model go faster or slower and change direction. We also created a model with a light sensor! We have learnt so much already…and it’s only Tuesday!
Another great day of fun in our Lego League challenge! Today we thought about what examples of energy consumption are in our community. Then we worked in our teams to build a carousel by carefully following the instructions. We coded our model so the motor allowed it to rotate, then we thought about our codes and changed it so the ride could spin in different directions and at different speeds. Our next task was to change the ride into a wind turbine. We worked together in teams to brainstorm our ideas and how we could maximize energy capture. By working together showing inclusion and innovation we were able to complete the task together! 
Year 1 have had another fantastic day exploring energy as part of our STEM week.

We did an amazing job working as a team and making sure every member was included and had a role.

Year 4 had a great first day of STEM week. We explored different ways that energy is created as well as how it is stored and distributed. We worked in teams to carry out research, follow instructions to buid a wind turbine and energy storage model, and make our own prototypes!

Where does energy come from and how is it used?
Today Year 1 began their energy journey.
We used pieces of LEGO from our STEAM Park to make creations and discover their function and how they could relate to energy.
We looked at different energy sources including wind turbine and solar panels.
This week is STEM week and we taking part in the Lego League Superpowered Challenge. Today we found out where we get our energy and thought about how we use it. We learned about energy journeys from the source, to storage, then distribution and finally energy consumption. There are lots of careers that work with energy such as a wind energy engineer or an electrician. Our challenges today were to work as a team to build a wind turbine and an energy storage model using our Lego. It was very important to follow the instructions carefully and support our team mates.
Today we learned that energy is any source that creates a change in matter. We learned about the two different types of energy renewable and non-renewable. We then researched sources of renewable energy and thought about where we can find them in our community before moving on to creating models of consumers of energy and energy sources.
Today we explored renewable energy and looked at the different energy sources in our community. We then had lots of fun using ‘Steam Park’ and ‘Superpowered’ LEGO to build a range of energy based objects.

Today we started our STEM week in year 1.
The aim of the week is to introduce the children to the fundamentals of STEM while working together to solve fun challenges and building models using LEGO DUPLO bricks.
In year 1, we are looking at energy, where it comes from and how we use it.
Today the children explored the STEAM Park pack and discussed different sources of energy in our community. We then worked in teams to make our own wind turbine using the building card.
