Last half term, we used the app Pixlr to explore how images can be edited. We used our knowledge to create advertisements for weird and wonderful places and films. Check out some of our adverts. We hope you like them!
Year 3 have been enjoying our ICT topic ‘Branching Databases’. We have been learning about yes and no questions and we began arranging objects in a tree structure to determine which groups the objects belonged to. We are looking forward to creating our own branching database in the upcoming weeks!
We are incredibly proud of our Harton Primary Puzzlers team this year. They represented South Tyneside in the national First Lego League final. They were polite, hardworking and enthusiastic throughout the day despite their very early morning start! They reached the final 12 knockout stage of the robotics game and even came away with the IET Innovation Award. They received this award for their detailed, inventive project idea as well as their fantastic gameshow-style presentation, interesting robot programming and design and their phenomenal teamwork. Well done, Harton Puzzlers.

In computing this year, we explored different podcasts and even made our own! Y4E had learned loads of interesting facts about the Anglo-Saxons in history so they decided to write and record podcasts based around this theme. We hope you enjoy them!
Year 3 have had so much fun making their own animations. We used a technique called onion skinning to help us make small changes between the frames. It took lots of skill! We had to ensure our background and frame shot did not change while moving our characters a very small amount each time. We worked very carefully to produce a stop frame animation that showed consistency and they were fantastic!
The children have used their new skills in vector drawing to create their 2022 calendars. The used 2 different sides of their image to show 2 different times of the year through use of shapes to draw their images.
Here are a few examples of their work…
In our second lesson of computing on vector drawing (computer drawings using shapes), the children had to create pictures of animals. Here are some examples of the children’s work:
The children have been learning about how computers send messages to one another in their topic: Sharing Information.
They were all set up as 10 computers and 20 routers connecting them together. One computer sent a packet (a message) to another, being passed from router to router to reach it’s destination.
After doing this as a class, they showed their understanding on a sheet.
It has become apparent that children are playing games on the yard inspired by the new Netflix show ‘Squid Game‘ – rated 15. While the games the children are playing at school have not currently caused concern (mainly chasing, tag type games), the content of the programme may not be age appropriate.
To help gauge if content (movies, TV shows, video games, books, etc) is appropriate, the website Common Sense Media is a great place to help. It gives reviews from both parents and children about what age they think the content is best suited for and gives reasons for their opinions.
With children and adults spending more and more time online, here are some guides to help support both parents and children online.
