Canny Friday!

This half term, our School Council are collecting donations of canned and other dried foods to help the South Tyneside Food Bank. Providing emergency food parcels for local individuals and families in crisis, the food bank is run by ‘Hospitality and Hope’. This is a Christian faith based charity that was established in 2002 to help support vulnerable individuals from within our community.Webpost_cansoffood

Donations of canned and dried foods for the food bank can be sent into school with your child each Friday. Our School Council members will be involved in sorting these donations, prior them being collected by the charity.

The first ‘Canny Friday’ will be held on Friday 10th March. The event will continue to be held, each Friday, until the end of term.

 

Lots of fun in YRM

The children in YRM have been working so hard since starting in Reception!

In the Autumn Term we learned about different seasons, worked on our writing skills by learning new sounds and rhymes to help us. We became experts in counting and writing numbers.

We also celebrated Halloween, Christmas and lots more!

So far this term we have been learning lots about life in other countries, including India and China… We even tried Chinese Dragon dancing!

YRE Christmas Stay and Play

Watch Them Grow!

We have been learning all about life cycles in Reception! The children in YRE have enjoyed watching chicks hatch from their eggs and the amazing transformation caterpillars make as they turn into butterflies. The children have handled the living things with care and have produced some amazing independent writing!

Zoo Academy visit YRM

This term as part of our learning about animals Reception had a visit from Zoo Academy. We were visited by lots of creepy crawlies including Cockroaches, a frog, a giant African land snail, a tarantula and a snake! The children learned how to handle the animals safely and were very brave! They were able to talk about how the animals felt and how to look after them. In addition we also thought about the countries which the animals came from and what it would be like there. We were very impressed with the children’s understanding of the World!

People Who help us

This term Reception have been learning about the people in our community who help us. Last week we had some special visitors who came to school, the police service, fire service and the school nurse.

They helped us to learn about their jobs and the services they provide.

We were very lucky as we got to set off the sirens in the police car and use the fire engine’s hose!
