There are a wealth of resources available online to continue to support all of our children with computing during school closures. Please use the following links to play online or download apps to your tablet/phones.

Simple step by step coding for children to create their own games – and suited for all ages. Free download from Apple Store or Google Play Store.

Tons of different coding opportunities that are designed to help children progress up to and over an hour of coding and debugging codes. Complete with a certificate at the end to show their achievement.

For Key Stage 2 (Year 3-6), use Scratch to create games using different levels of instructions and codes – from movements to sounds. Play different games made by users and see the codes that made them run.

Digital Escape Room

Using the ICTinSchool website to solve different puzzles and use critical thinking to help escape different types of rooms – from space stations to haunted houses.

Create your own free account and you can browse a wide range of their books in ebook and audiobook version. You can select books by your child’s age range. This is also a reading scheme we use in school.

Collins Big Cat e-books and worksheets

This gives a parent login and then you can browse their available ebooks and there are related printable worksheets linked to most books. This is also a reading scheme we use in school.

 

Audible

The amazon company – audible are now providing free audiobooks for the duration of the school closures. All stories are free to stream on desktop computers, laptops, phones or tablets.

 

BorrowBox

This is an app which can be downloaded onto a phone or tablet and used if you have a library membership where you can access a wide range of ebooks and audiobooks.

Science Week

Science Week provided an opportunity to introduce Nursery to the world of knowledge, to engage and inspire an interest in Science.  The Nursery children all became Scientists, we carried out lots of experiments and had a visit from Science Buddies and colourful made slime.

We love reading!

In YRM, we love reading and listening to different stories. The children like to bring their favourite stories into school to share at home time. The reading corner is very popular and the children enjoy exploring books.

History Visitor

Reception enjoyed taking part in History Week. We had workshops with the staff from Newcastle Castle and learned all about castles. The children enjoyed looking at some artefacts and working out what they might have been used for. We also learned how to joust and made some medieval gingerbread.
