Today we learned that energy is any source that creates a change in matter. We learned about the two different types of energy renewable and non-renewable. We then researched sources of renewable energy and thought about where we can find them in our community before moving on to creating models of consumers of energy and energy sources.
Today we explored renewable energy and looked at the different energy sources in our community. We then had lots of fun using ‘Steam Park’ and ‘Superpowered’ LEGO to build a range of energy based objects.

Today we started our STEM week in year 1.
The aim of the week is to introduce the children to the fundamentals of STEM while working together to solve fun challenges and building models using LEGO DUPLO bricks.
In year 1, we are looking at energy, where it comes from and how we use it.
Today the children explored the STEAM Park pack and discussed different sources of energy in our community. We then worked in teams to make our own wind turbine using the building card.
Year 1 have been exploring fruits and vegetables as part of our Design Technology topic.
We have sorted, named and tasted lots of fruits. Once we had tasted the fruits we decided which ones we would like in our own fantastic fruit salad.
As part of our activities we carefully and safely chopped our fruits, we even designed our own packaging labels.
In Design and Technology this half term, the children have been looking at, comparing and designing their own bolognese sauce.
They searched for different recipes on the internet, and worked in a group to devise their own with ingredients they would like and how to make a healthy.
In preparation for cooking, the children were tasked with practicing at home chopping food, so they had some experience of what was to come.
On Monday they were tasked with making their sauce using slow cookers in the classroom. A range of ingredients they used included: onions, celery, sweetcorn, potatoes, garlic and a wide range of herbs.
Some ingredients were not chopped prior to putting in the pots, so the children adapted to use (cleaned) tools from around the classroom to solve the problem.
This week in History club, we talked about the River Tyne and discovered why it has been significant over time. We found out about shipbuilding on Tyneside and the Jarrow Crusade. We listened to the ‘Last Ship’ by Sting and then made our ships!
In our Design Technology sessions Year 1 have been identifying and sorting fruits and vegetables and whether they grow above the ground or below below the ground.
We named fruits – mango, plum, pears, bananas, kiwi and oranges before we cut up safely to taste.
After tasting, we discussed the fruits we enjoyed. We thought the mango and pears were really tasty.
Once we tasted the fruits we planned what we would like to add to our own fruit salad.
This week in Reception, we have been learning about the coronation of King Charles III. We took part in activities covering many areas of the curriculum.
In History, we learned facts about King Charles and found out what a coronation was. We watched the coronation of the King’s mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
In Literacy, we wrote facts about King Charles.
In Geography, we learned about the commonwealth and looked at the commonwealth countries on a map.
In Art and DT, we made decorations for our classroom and designed flags to represent all of the commonwealth countries. We even had a go at drawing King Charles!
In ICT, we used Google Earth to look at Great Britain and the commonwealth countries. We were very excited to see our school!
Y3 created our own seasonal salads.
Our teachers told us to wash our hands to kill any bacteria whilst they cleaned our tables with disinfectant spray to prepare our cooking spaces.
We then looked at all of the seasonal salad items that we had to choose from. We carefully used the knives to chop all of our ingredients before placing them into bowls in the middle of our tables to choose what we would like in our salads. It felt like we were at a salad bar!
We choose our lettuce first, then moved along the vegetables to pick what seasonal items we wanted to include – some of us had a little taste along the way to check we liked it before adding it to our salad!
We then added our cheese or meat selection before carefully squeezing a dash of lemon, lime or orange onto it to give it a little zing!
We can’t wait to eat them for our tea this evening!

In Nursery, we enjoy using the iPads and computers to learn. Our favourite programmes are Sherston and 2 Simple Simple City. We are experts at using our fingers to operate the technology. We listen carefully and follow instructions.
