Investigating and making sound

Year 4’s latest science topic was all about sound. We’ve discovered that sounds are produced by an object vibrating.

Did you know that bigger vibrations produce louder sounds whereas smaller vibrations produce quieter sounds? Did you also know that faster vibrations produced higher pitched sounds.

We then used this knowledge to design and make our own musical instruments!

Year 2 Technology Tom

We were very lucky to have a visit from our friend Technology Tom who came to work with us as part of our design and technology curriculum. Our topic is wheels and axles and we made a moving model of George Stephenson’s Rocket. We attached the wheels to the axle and then attached the axle using an axle holder. Then, we built the chassis and finally named our engines. We did an amazing job and had great fun too!

Pancake Day

Today we celebrated Pancake Day in Nursery. We helped to measure the ingredients and mix the batter. After Mrs Thompson cooked them, we added our favourite toppings and ate them all up. They were delicious!

Toys

3rd February 2023J Twigge

This half term Year 1 have have been learning about Toys and the materials they are made from.  We looked at our modern toys and some old toys.

On Thursday we had a visit from Technology Tom, he shared some toys with us.  We sorted toys into plastic, metal, glass, fabric and wood.

As part of our day we made a cup and ball from a plastic milk carton, string and tape.  It was great fun!

We also made a modern take on a Victorian penny toy.  We sanded, added a wheel, a baring and stoppers. Then created an image to add.

Exciting electronic cards

In DT, Year 4 applied their knowledge from science about electricity to design and make their own electronic greeting cards. We used copper tape, LEDs and coin cells to make complete circuits which would light up when someone pressed the right place on the card. We thought about who the card was for, what the best design would be and how to incorporate a circuit into the card. They looked amazing and very festive! Check out some of our brilliant finished products.

A ‘Soup’er Day in Year

This half-term, Year 6 have explored seasonal produce and invented their own healthy soup recipe. They worked in groups and found out about foods grown in the UK, designed a healthy recipe, sourced and priced different ingredients and finally made and ate their own soup. They all agreed it was ‘souper’!

This week, in Reception, we enjoyed making Christmas biscuits. We discussed the instructions using the following language: first, then, next, after and last. We had so much fun and they tasted yummy!

The Gingerbread Man

This week we have been reading the story ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We used puppets to retell the story and made our own Gingerbread men. They were delicious!

Technology Tom

Today Technology Tom visited Nursery. He showed us how air affects different objects, then we made our own flying fish! We loved Tom’s amazing investigations and he was impressed with our super cutting skills.

Y3 enjoyed taste testing lots of different breads and fillings they could use to be adventurous when designing their own sandwich! We evaluated the smell, texture, appearance and most importantly the taste of different ingredients.
