In Y3 this week, we have been investigating the effects of friction on different surfaces. We used 3 different materials (whiteboard, wooden hardboard and carpet) to measure how far a toy car could travel. We predicted that the carpet would have the most friction because it is a rough surface. We also predicted the smooth whiteboard surface would have the least friction and therefore would travel the furthest. We found our predictions were accurate! The toy car travelled 84cm on the whiteboard, 78cm on the wooden hardboard and 0cm on the carpet. Here are some pictures of us during our investigation.
