On Wednesday 18th November 2015, six children from Harton Primary, representing years 2 to 6, attended an award ceremony at Boldon Comprehensive School. This was run by FAB (Friends Against Bullying) and South Tyneside Council’s Anti-Bullying Steering Group. During the celebration, 18 schools throughout the borough were rewarded for their ‘amazing anti-bullying work’ and they were invited to share their successes with each other.

In order to qualify, Harton Primary had to explain the anti-bullying work undertaken in school. We have involved the school council, all pupils and all staff. Younger members of the school explored the idea of ‘What Makes A Good Friend’. Year 1 took part in a drama workshop and produced posters. The rest of the school participated in a poetry competition. Winning entries from each class are to be published in a school ‘Anti-Bullying Manual’, a copy of which will be prominently displayed in each classroom of the school. The standard of poetry was very high and choosing the winners was very difficult.

The manual will also contain examples of posters and the results of our ‘Keeping Safe’ whole school assembly. The safety of our pupils, your children, is very important to the staff and governors of Harton Primary School.
