Black History Week

18th November 2020eclark

The children were excited to learn about Katherine Johnson as part of Black History Week. They worked really hard to research this inspirational figure and produced some amazing biographies as a result. They finished the week with a discussion about equality and fairness. Inspired by Show Racism the Red Card, they enjoyed writing positive statements that serve as a reminder to treat everyone with the respect and kindness.

Accelerated Reader awards

12th November 2020D Fawkes

A huge congratulations to Phoebe Ofosu and Joe Roberts in Y6F for being the first children in the school to achieve AR awards this year. Phoebe has become our first Word Millionaire and has read over 1,000,000 words since September and Joe has become our first half-millionaire by reading over 500,000 words. Joe is also now extremely close to becoming a Word Millionaire.

Both children have shown such dedication to their reading this year and I love to hear about the novels they’re reading and see their enthusiasm.

Who will be next to achieve an AR award?

Science

We have started learning about electricity in class and have discussed which devices are powered by mains electricity and which are powered by batteries.

Mains electricity can be very dangerous.

Look at this website:

http://www.switchedonkids.org.uk/what-is-electricity

http://www.switchedonkids.org.uk/electrical-safety-in-your-home

Then create a poster to inform people of how to be safe around electricity in the home. Include writing and pictures.
